Binomial Nomenclature is also known as binominal nomenclature or binary nomenclature is a method of naming in taxonomy for species. It consists of two terms or two names which means for a species whether it is animal or bird or plant or any other organism, it is represented by a two-word name. The words used are basically Latin. The first part of the name is called the generic name which represents the genus of species belongs to and the second part is the specific name that distinguishes species in the genus. For instance, humans are belonging to the genus homo and sapiens is the species name. So, modern human is scientifically Homo sapiens. This system is founded by Carl Linnaeus in 1753 and introduced this system to the world by his work Species Plantarum.
The usage of binomial nomenclature is under the governance of different internationally approved codes of rule. Of these codes of rule, two are the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) for animals and the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants (ICNafp). Even though the general rules for binomial nomenclature to these two codes of the rule are common, there is some variation in the usage of terminology and other rules.
