1: Who was the first woman President of India?
Government of India decided to celebrate January 25 as “National Voters’ Day since 2011 in order to spread awareness , encourage voters about voting rights and thereby increase enrolment of voters, especially of the new young ones. In 2011, first National voter’s day was celebrated on January 25 to mark national election Commission’s foundation day. It was the 61st Foundation Day of the Election Commission.
In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the PM Manmohan Singh in 2011, discussed the issue of decline in the participation of youngsters in voting process, which showed their lack of interest in enrolling as voters. It was proposed that the government would identify all the eligible voters attaining the age of 18 till January 1st of every year and submit the data to the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on January 25 of that year. It was also decided to observe January 25 as National Voter’s day to encourage people to vote.

National Voters Day 2023 – Significance
The main objective behind observing January 25 as National Voter’s Day is to encourage young voter’s to cast vote and hence increase number of voters. Government of India decided to observe National Voter’s Day finding the decline in number of voters.
Voting is one of the basic rights that every person attains after an age of 18 year’s But nowadays, people show lack of interest in political activities being conducted throughout the country. To deal this problem the Electoral Commission took up various methods to identify all eligible voters attending the age of 18 years as of 1 January every year in each of 8.5 lakh polling stations across the country. The eligible voters are then enrolled on time and handed over their Electoral Photo Identity Card(EPIC) on 25th January every year.
Voters are provided with badges having logos, “Proud to be a voter, ready to vote.” This initiative is expected to give the youth a sense of empowerment, pride and inspire them to exercise their franchise.
The slogan ‘No Voter to be left behind’ was coined to further emphasis the focus on inclusiveness. The National Awards are being conferred for excellence, proficiency and innovation in election processes and procedures. These awards recognize contribution by election machinery, government department/ agency/ PSU, CSO and media.
