OET Exam Overview

The OET test has been developed specifically for 12 healthcare professions. The OET exam is accepted by healthcare professionals who are looking to work or study in the healthcare sector in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Maldives, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. The exam evaluates the language proficiency of healthcare professionals in four key aspects:

Speaking: Candidates have to engage in a profession-specific role-play, with the interlocutor playing as your patient.

Listening: This includes listening assessments based on patient consultations and lectures.

Reading: Candidates have to read and understand different types of texts based on a variety of healthcare professions and subjects.

Writing: It includes a writing task specific to your profession such as a document of referral, advice or a letter.

The OET scores range from 0-500 and a grade is awarded for the numeric score you obtained from A to E, where A is the highest grade and E is the lowest grade. The required score is subject to the decision of the concerned authority, however, the minimum score that one has to avail is very commonly set at 350- Grade B.

Once the tests are done, you can access your results on the official website of OET. The results are generally generated after (approximately)16 business days from when you appeared for a specific subtest. You can download the official copies of Statements of Results from your online profile.

OET Exam Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a recognized healthcare qualification, such as a medical degree, nursing degree, or other relevant healthcare qualification.
• Age Requirements: There is no minimum age requirement to take the OET exam.
• Work Experience: Some healthcare boards, councils, and organizations may require candidates to have a certain amount of work experience in a healthcare environment.
• Candidates must meet all the requirements for accepted healthcare boards to pursue registration and visas.  They are advised to check the official website for detailed criteria required for each profession and destination of OET exam-eligible countries.

OET Registration Form

OET exam registration can be done only through the official website. Candidates have to complete the registration process and select test dates. OET has two types of tests, paper-based and online. For the paper-based exam, visit “myOET login page.” You have to create an account and follow the provided guidelines to book online exam test dates. Both OET on a computer at a venue and at home are delivered by Prometric, but candidates have to take the speaking test via Zoom.

OET Exam Fee

The test includes four sections: listening, writing, reading, and speaking. You can register for the four sections or retake any of the sections. OET exam fees for the test center and home edition are the same. It can be paid through a valid credit or debit card. You must pay the OET exam fee when you register for the exam. You can register for the exam up to 6 months in advance of the test date.

Individual subsets can be booked for OET on Paper at the majority of the venues around the world. This option is only available if you have previously taken the full OET Test. It is better to ensure that the organization you will be sharing your results with accepts scores from individual sub-tests tests / less than a full test.

You can cancel your OET Test for a refund up to one week before test day for OET on Paper or two days before the test for OET on Computer at a venue or OET@Home. The amount that will be refund will depend on your test type, where you take the test and when you cancel your test.
