TNPSC Group 1 Selection Process
To choose candidates for admission to the Main written examination, there will be three successive steps of selection:
- a preliminary examination
- the main written examination
- an oral test in the form of an interview.
The Preliminary Examination is solely intended to be a screening tool. The candidates’ Preliminary Examination scores will not be taken into account for calculating their final order of merit if they are pronounced qualified for admission to the Main Written Examination. In accordance with the appointment reservation rule, there will be 20 times as many applicants admitted to the Main Written Examination as there are applicants to be hired. Although the ratio of candidates accepted to the Main Written Examination may exceed 1:20, all applicants in each reservation group who achieve the same score as the cutoff point for their reservation group will also be allowed to take the Main Written Examination. In the place of rejected candidates (or candidates who failed to send documents for verification), no extra list will be issued. Subject to the Rule of Reservation of Appointments, the ultimate selection will be based on the candidates’ combined marks in the Main Written Examination Papers II, III, and IV and the Oral Test.
