Uday Shankar named FICCI President for 2020-21. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry also known as FICCI is a coalition of business organizations in India. FICCI was established in 1927, by GD Birla and Purshottamdas Thakurdas on the advice given by Mahatma Gandhi. It is the substantial, oldest and the apex business organisation in India. FICCI is a non-government, not-for-profit organization.
FICCI draws its membership from the corporate sector, both private and public, including SMEs and MNCs. The chamber is involved in sector-specific business building, business promotion and networking. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry has recently made of the its biggest announcement about the appointment of its new president. Mr. Uday Shankar has been appointed as the new president of the camber for the year 2020-2021. Mr. Uday will take over the place of the existing president of FICCI Sangita Reddy.
Mr. Uday Shankar is currently the president of Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and is also the chairman of Star India as well as Walt Disney Company, India. However, he will be stepping down from the above-mentioned positions on the 31st of December,2020. Mr. Shankar will be taking over the president post of The Federation of India Chamber of Commerce & Industry during the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled to take place on December 11th, 12th and 14th. He will be the first-ever media executive of India to preside over the chamber, which happens to be India’s oldest national industry chamber.

Mr. Uday Shankar was born in the Indian state of Bihar, after his early education from his hometown he moved to New Delhi and pursued his Master’s Degree in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Mr. Shankar started his career as a political correspondent with the “Times of India, at Patna” after a short period of work with “The Times of India” he started to work after an editor for an environmental magazine named “Down to Earth” once he came back to Delhi.
Mr. Shankar began his career in the TV-News industry at Zee TV as a news producer and rose rapidly. From Zee TV, he shifted to Home TV, Sahara Samay, Aaj Tak and finally to Star News as its chief executive officer (CEO).
Later on, he was appointed as chairman and CEO of Star India to keep an on its entire broadcasting operations.
On 5th December, 2017, Mr. Uday Shankar was the president of 21st Century Fox for Asia. The new role appointed to him was to oversee Fox’s television and online video platform business across the region. On 13th December 2018, The Walt Disney Company announced that Shankar would guide Disney’s Asian Pacific region and the chairman of Disney India after the acquisition of 21st Century Fox closes. On the 1stof April 2019, Shankar was appointed as the president Disney Asia Pacific, and he announced the restructuring of the complete entity of Star India and Disney after his appointment.
On the 8th of October 2020, he moved back from his current role of President – APAC, The Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International and Chairman Star & Disney India, he will be transitioning out by 31st December 2020. He also served as the Vice President of FICCI. Earlier, he had served with the same as the President of the M&E (Media & Entertainment) sector.
