ATC (Air Traffic Controller) is one of the most satisfying professions in the world. It is an exciting job with a handsome pay along with other extra benefits which are rare to find in other government posts. The day to day duties of ATC involves ensuring the smooth flow of air traffic. The job can be challenging at times but the perks make up for it. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) recruits Air Traffic Controllers based on a well thought out procedure which includes a written test, voice test and later an Interview. Interested candidates can apply now for the exam here and the last date for applying is August 16, 2018 11:59pm. The tentative dates for the written test are 11th September to 14th September 2018.

Eligibility criteria of AAI ATC
The candidate should meet the following criteria to be eligible to attend the exam:
- Regular full time Bachelor’s Degree (3 years) in Science (B.Sc.) with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks
OR
Full time regular Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in any disciplines of Electronics/Telecommunications/ Information Technology with minimum 60% marks.
- The candidate shall have minimum proficiency in both spoken and written English. He/she shall also attain the ICAO language minimum proficiency level 4 (operational) for the purpose of issue of license or rating and language improvement classes will be provided for the selected candidates. Any candidate who is not able to attain ICAO proficiency level 4 or above during the training, are liable to be terminated.
In addition, candidates have to satisfy the medical fitness requirements as well.
Exam Pattern and syllabus of AAI ATC
The written examination for AAI ATC carries a total of 120 marks and the duration of the exam is 2 hours. From this year, the exam will be conducted online. The exam has two sections – technical section( physics and mathematics) and non-technical section (General aptitude, English, Current Affairs and Reasoning). There is no negative marking and the questions are objective. The syllabus and distribution of marks in each section are given below.
[table id=88 /]Tips to prepare for AAI ATC Exam
- The technical questions asked are mostly +1 and +2 level along with questions at graduate level and thus candidates can refer to NCERT books as well as practice solving JEE main prelims questions. Also refer to graduate level physics books, by referring to first-year B.Tech Physics, to be able to attempt the advanced level questions.
- It is better to attempt the non-technical section questions first, as most of the questions asked in the section are related to what we learned in high school and thus require less time.
- Solving previous year’s questions papers as well as mock tests will help improve speed and the questions asked in previous years question papers will give you an idea about the important topics.
- Since there is no negative marking, it is better to try and answer all the questions.
- For English section, SSC CGL exam papers will be helpful as the level of questions asked are similar.
- There is no cut off for this section, the overall marks of both the tests will be considered to shortlist the candidates for the interview round.
