Common Eligibility Test (CET) will be conducted for all the candidates who are preferring for government jobs from 2022. The announcement was made by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space Dr Jitendra Singh. As per the declaration, the candidates will have to face the CET to get shortlisted for the various posts under the central government sectors. Approaching a gathering at the launch of the e-Book Civil List-2021 of IAS officers, Dr Jitendra Singh mentioned that initially, the government was trying to aim at conducting the CET later in the year for the first time. However, he mentioned that CET has been postponed this year due to the various pandemic situations all over the nation. Thus, the announcement will be made possible from the year 2024. This stands as a strong initiative from the central government sector allowing the most eligible and efficient candidates to sort the seats.
National Recruitment Agency (NRA) to Conduct CET
As per the comment of Dr Jitendra Singh, the National Recruitment Agency which was fixed up with the permission of the Union Cabinet will manage the Common Eligibility Test. It is the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) which bring out the screening and shortlisting of applicants for jobs in the government division.

Goal of CET
Dr Jitendra Singh further added that the primary goal to conduct CET is
- Make sure that all the candidates are provided with a level playing field irrespective of their socioeconomic status and background.
- The Common Eligibility Test will prove beneficial for women
- It is also considered to be beneficial for the physically challenged candidates
- Appearing in various tests is not a financially constraint
- Traveling to various centers are also considered

“There will also be a huge benefit to women and Divyang candidates and for those who find it financially affordably to appear for multiple tests by traveling to multiple Centres,” the Union minister added.
Pointing to a series of choices since May 2014, he said that the decision to do away with the time-old tradition of getting certificates attested by a gazetted officer and substituting the same with self-attestation, three-month Central Government stint as Assistant Secretaries for IAS officers at the beginning of their career are far-reaching in nature.

Addressing the e-Book IAS Civil List 2024, Singh said the active list will help in choosing the right officer for the right task based on available profile and is a vital source of information on the officers manning various posts for the general public.
Exam Pattern for CET
The Common Eligibility Test is expected in four sections, each section will carry 50 questions and the exam duration is 2 hours. The following four sections are as follows –
