Good Governance Day is celebrated on December 25 annually. The Good Governance Day in India is the celebration of the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India. Good governance day is celebrated to create awareness among the citizens about the accountability of the government. The term Good Governance itself means to state that the government should stand for the goodness of the country and its citizens. The government should be accountable for the internal and external affairs of the country. The good governance day in India is the celebration of the goodness in the governance that the people had witnessed while Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister. The celebration of good governance is the reminder that a good governance system should stand with the citizens at any cost.

Good Governance Day 2022 Theme

Good governance day is celebrated on the 25th of December 2022. The day has particular importance as it marks the theme of good governance “ Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur”. This day is celebrated by conducting nationwide campaigns to facilitate the redressal of the grievance to the public. The service of the government should be improved across the nation. The districts, villages, states, union territories, etc. should be given ample importance and the support system in all nooks and corners of the society should be improved. Good governance aims at the reformation of the society through the proper intervention by the government bodies in the decision making and formulation. The day can be celebrated by using good governance day quiz, debates, discussions, live programs, orientations, seminars, etc.

Good Governance Day 2022 Key Points

Governance is a process by which the decisions are made and implemented for the general good of the citizens. The several forms of government can be used to be many of the decisions to the light of practicality. The governance can be put forward through various forms of the government including international governance, corporate governance, national governance, and local governance. The major characteristics of good governance include eight characteristics. The eight characteristics of good governance include Participation,  Rule of law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus orientation, Equity, Effectiveness and efficiency, and Accountability. Good governance is observed annually on December 25. The day aims to let the citizens, the students, who are the future of the country know about the government’s responsibilities and duties that it needs to fulfill. The day is also celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya  were awarded India’s loftiest civilian honor,  Bharat Ratna On December 23, 2014. The  Modi government decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister as Good Governance Day. Since then,  December 25 is celebrated across the country as Good Governance Day.

Good Governance Day acts as a reminder to the current government that it should be impartial, translucent, eco-friendly, responsible, transparent, evident, and development-oriented. Being an  Indian politician, orator, and writer, Ada Bihari Vajpayee is known for his compassion and iron-fisted rule.

Good Governance should show the characteristics of the governance which is translucent and transparent every time. The citizens should be part of the decision-making. The voice of the common people should be heard everywhere. The legitimate interests should be shown to the problems and concerns of the people. The legal system should be fair and impartial. The government system should stand with the people. Human rights should be given priority. Transparency should be maintained. The information of the citizens should be kept confidential. The institutions should be liable to the needs of the citizens. The citizens should be equally treated and considered. Society’s growth and development should be the priority of the government system. Equal opportunities should be given to the candidates to improve the well-being of the people. The best resources should be used to meet the basic needs of the people. The decision-making should be done with utmost clarity.

Good Governance Challenges

The challenges faced by good governance are many. The corruption and decay of the justice occupy Corruption should be prevented to facilitate growth and proper wellbeing of the common people. Women’s empowerment is part of the development of society. The government institution should represent women. The quality of good governance is hindered by the delay injustice. The justice should be meted at timely. The citizens should have faith in the judicious ways of the system. The common man should be treated with concern. Good governance should function effectively. Empowerment should be the agenda. The markets economy, liberalization, and environment security, sustainable development, etc. should be taken care of.
