Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) was established as a society on December 9, 1997; it is an autonomous institution and the highest policy-making entity in Karnataka for HIV/AIDS, led by the Chief Minister. The Executive Committee’s chairperson is the Principal Secretary/Secretary of the Government Health and Family Welfare Department. According to NACO, Karnataka is one of India’s “high prevalence States.” Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Nagaland are the other high-prevalence states in India. KSAPS is carrying out Phase III of the National AIDS Control Programme. Karnataka is divided into 26 Category A districts and one Category C district.
