Kerala PSC HSST Geology Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Detailed Guide
Kerala PSC has released the detailed eligibility conditions for the post of Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSST) in Geology under the Kerala Higher Secondary Education Department. Candidates must carefully check the age limit, educational qualifications, SET requirements, exemptions, and weightage rules before applying to avoid disqualification at later stages.
Method of Appointment
The appointment to the post of HSST Geology will be through Direct Recruitment as per Kerala PSC norms.
Age Limit
- Applicants must be aged 20 to 40 years as on 01 January 2025. Only candidates born between 02 January 1985 and 01 January 2005 (both dates inclusive) are eligible.
- A special upper age relaxation up to 43 years is applicable for qualified Ministerial Staff working under the Higher Secondary Education Department, subject to government orders. Other age relaxations will be applicable as per Part II of the General Conditions of Kerala PSC.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Geology or the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from a university in Kerala or a qualification recognized as equivalent.
In addition, a B.Ed degree in the concerned subject is required. If candidates with B.Ed in the exact subject are not available, B.Ed in the concerned faculty or B.Ed in any subject (as per Kerala university statutes) will be considered in the prescribed order of preference.
SET Requirement
Passing the State Eligibility Test (SET) conducted by the Government of Kerala or an authorized agency is mandatory. However, candidates who have qualified NET/JRF, SLET, Ph.D, M.Phil, or M.Ed (as per rules) are exempted from SET.
Special Provisions & Preferences
- In the absence of B.Ed holders, candidates with a Master’s Degree (50% marks) and SET qualification may be appointed, provided they acquire B.Ed within five years at their own expense.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding Ph.D, M.Phil, NET, or JRF qualifications.
Weightage Marks for Higher Qualifications
Kerala PSC awards additional weightage marks for non-qualifying higher degrees claimed in the application:
- M.Phil (Non-Qualifying): 2 marks
- Ph.D (Non-Qualifying): 4 marks
- Both M.Phil & Ph.D: 5 marks
- Post Doctoral Fellowship: 2 marks
Relaxations & Exemptions
- 5% PG marks relaxation for SC/ST and Differently Abled candidates
- SET exemption for teachers with 10 years approved High School service
- M.Ed holders in the concerned subject are exempted from B.Ed

Kerala HSST Geology Selection Process 2026 – Exam, SET & Merit List
The recruitment for the Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSST) in Geology will be conducted through direct selection comprising the following steps:
- Exam Confirmation & Test – Candidates required to appear for a written/OMR/online test must confirm their participation via the One Time Registration (OTR) portal. Only confirmed candidates can download the Admission Ticket within the 15 days before the exam. Applications without confirmation will be rejected. Relevant dates will be communicated in the Examination Calendar and to candidates’ registered mobile numbers.
- Verification of Documents – Candidates who clear the exam will be called for document verification, including proof of educational qualifications, age, and community certificates.

Validity of Ranked List:
- The Ranked List generated from this recruitment will be effective for at least one year and up to three years or until a new list is published.
