The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on December 14 since 1991. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under Ministry of Power, heads the celebrations every year. The objective of the National Energy Conservation Day is to create awareness about the importance of energy efficiency and conservation, reduce demand, protect the available resources and to develop and use alternative sources. At this moment, when global warming is increasing at an alarming rate, the need for working on increasing the efficiency and conserving the available resources is indispensable.
National Energy Conservation Day 2022 Theme
The Ministry of Power is celebrating the Energy Conservation Week from 8th to 14th December 2022 under the theme “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. National level events are being organized on a daily basis from 8th to 14th December.
The events are as follows:
- Virtual launch of Certificate Course on Home Energy Audit Program – 8th December
- Webinar on Technology Transfer for Decarbonization of Industry – 9th December
- National Workshop on Energy Efficiency in the Indian Residential Sector – 10th December
- National Workshop on the Role of Energy Efficient Appliances in Market transformation – 10th December
- National Workshop Event on Energy Efficiency Plans for the MSME Sector – 11th December
- Amrit Utsav Celebration for Designated Consumers under PAT Cycle II – Interaction with Dignitaries. – 13th December
The curtains shall be drawn after the award distribution ceremony for the winners, industrial units and other establishments on National Energy Conservation Day’ , 14th December, 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
National Energy Conservation Day Objectives 2022
1: Who was the first woman President of India?
Following are the some of the essential objectives of National Energy Conservation Day:
a) It is observed to convey a message to the public about the need of conserving energy in all aspects of life
b) Encourage consumers to use less energy by avoiding excessive usage
c) Organize variety of activities like seminars, workshops, contests etc. to encourage energy conservation process
d) Encourage to use energy efficiently
National Energy Conservation Day Awards 2022
The BEE encourages industries to take up energy conservation measures by honoring them with National Energy Conservation Awards. BEE also awards the winners of the annual National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation. Every year on 14th December, these Awards are given by notable members of the Government of India to recognize the efforts taken by various sectors of industries to conserve energy in India. These awards have also proved to be a motivation for all the establishments in the country to adopt energy efficiency measures.
National Energy Conservation Awards 2022
The National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) are being given to various industries of the Indian economy for their achievements in reducing specific energy consumption. This award is given for 17 sectors covering 5 categories:
- Industry
- Buildings
- Transport
- Institutions
- Appliances
Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards
Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) is given to encourage energy efficiency through innovative measures.
From 2022 onwards, the Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) will be for two categories
- Category A – Buildings, Transport and Industries
- Category B – Students and Research Scholars.
This award creates a sense of competition among industries and sectors which helps them to come up with innovative ideas to be practiced in their facilities thereby ensuring energy efficiency. These ideas can later be used by industries throughout the nation, making this endeavor a fruitful one.
National Level Painting Competitions
Since 2005, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has also been organizing National Level Painting Competitions on energy conservation for school children of grades 4 to 10. This year, the theme for the competition is ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Energy Efficient India’ and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Cleaner Planet’. The objective of this competition is to instill in children the need of energy conservation. The children of today are the future builders of our nation, so the values they inculcate now will help them to pave a better future for themselves as well as the nation.
The winners of the National level competition will be awarded on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, December 14th 2022.
Not only the industries and factories, it is also incumbent upon us as individuals to ensure that we advocate energy saving measures in our day to day activities. A small step in the right direction can go a long way in creating a brighter future for our nation and the world.
