United Nations Public Service Day 2022 – Theme, History, Symbol: United Nations Public Service day 2022 date is June 23. The day is designed as the Public Service Day by the General Assembly under resolution 57/277. It was on December 20, 2002, that the General Assembly decided to proclaim the day as the UN Public Service Day. This day is specially designed to embrace the value of the nature of public services and the communities that propose public services. This has its impact upon society largely and encourages humankind to come forward to public service sectors.

This enables the proper recognition of the Public Service sectors and public servants, thereby enabling the youths and other members of the society to come forward to the public sector and pursue a career in it.

The UN Public Service Awards program was established in 2003 which rechecked 2016 to align with the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. Thereby, the UNPSA promoted the public services and allocates reward for excellence and creative achievements.

Globally this day is observed and celebrated in terms of the public sectors and public servants who promote and enrich the betterment of the Nation. This day also looks forward to the innovations and technological achievements a Nation is looking forward to.

Due to the current situations of the pandemic, a proper celebration and gatherings are not possible. Thus, the Division of Public Institutions and Digital Government of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, are coming together with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to conduct an online event. Even though the pandemic is stressing upon the limitations, it is evident that technology and proper intervention of the developments, the events are still organized wonderfully and fruitfully.

Significance of UN Public Service Day 2022

The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic stimulated these trends in remote work in government, digital service delivery, virtual service teams. As we advance the third decade of the twenty-first century, every nation in the world needs to consider the design and operation of its civil service.

History

By giving away Resolution 57/277 on December 20, 2002, the General Assembly declared June 23 to be the Public Service Day. It recognizes and encourages young people to seek professions. this ensures the proper participation and coordination of the young minds in the public sectors. The technical innovation and the developments of the new era stand as a mediator. Symbol of UN Public Service Day

The United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN) uses a unique logo for Public Service Day. It highlights two columns, one on the left front and one on the right front, and also in connecting are a pair of hands sketched in orange in a flame. Those hands enclose three blue human shapes. The illustration in the middle represents a woman and the two other figures, one on per side of the woman, are male. The term Public, which connects the two columns, is written above the heads of the figures, which are surviving on or approved by the word Service in capital letters, which joins the two columns. A tiny variant of UNPAN’s main logo is placed above the word Public

“UNPAN’s main logo, in blue and white, is similar to the logo on the UN flag. It features a projection of a world map (less Antarctica) cantered on the North Pole, enclosed by olive branches. The olive branches are a symbol for peace, and the world map represents all the people of the world.”
