UP Police ASI Job Profile 2021

Through open recruitment and promotion, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) hires the Assistant Sub Inspectors to the state police services. The services in the Uttar Pradesh Police is been categorized into three cadres:

• Ministerial Cadre
• Accounts Cadre, and
• Confidential Assistant Cadre

Among these cadres, both the Ministerial and Accountants cadres have the Assistant Sub Inspector position, and 80%  (100% for Accountant Cadre) of these positions vacancies are usually filled through open recruitment. Periodically the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board conducts the recruitment process for the UP Police ASI selections, and any graduates below 28 years are eligible to appear for the same. On joining, these new officers will be appointed with grade pay of Rs. 2800/ on the pay scale of Rs 5200 – 20200. After serving the force as an ASI for some period, they can appear for the promotion tests to advance their career to the Inspector posts.

The duties of a UP Police ASI in Clerical cadre include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting the Sub Inspector to maintain law and order in the provincial police stations
• Administer the Police Outposts and Investigation centres as required
• Makes incident reports, files FIRs if required
• The Assistant Sub Inspector is in charge of armouries and the training centres

UP Police ASI Career Path

Based on the candidate’s qualification, one can join the Uttar Pradesh Police as the Assistant Sub Inspectors either as a Clerk or as an Accountant. Even though both positions are Grade ‘C’ posts with similar grade pays, the forward career journey will be different. On successful completion of the recruitment process, the recruitment board shall make the appointment subject to the candidate’s character verification. Aspirants recommended for the appointment based on the promotion rules, shall be promoted n the order of seniority in the feeder cadre.

On appointment, the candidates will have to serve the force for the next two years as Probationary officers. The appointment authority can either extend the probation period or can cut down the same based on their reasons. Once the new appointees have successfully completed the probation training they will be posted in any station or office as required, and thus start their career as the UP Police ASI career. Candidates will get their first increment when he/ she has completed the training, passed the departmental tests, and one year of satisfactory service. They will get their second increment after two years of service when he/ she has completed the probation and is also confirmed. If the candidate’s probation is continued because of the candidate’s unsuccess in the tests or the training, those periods will not count for the increments.
