The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) announced the 70th National Film Awards winners in a press conference at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. Feature and non-feature films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification between January 1 and December 31, 2022, competed for the prestigious awards.
Malayalam movie Aattam, directed by Anand Ekarshi, bagged the award for Best Feature Film in the 70th edition of the National Film Awards. The Best Director award went to Sooraj Barjatya for his film Uunchai.
Rishabh Shetty secured the Best Actor award with his mesmerising performance in the movie Kantara, which he directed. Mammootty was Shetty’s competition in the final round for the best actor award with his performance in the movies Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Rorschach. The Best Actress award is shared by Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for The Kutch Express.

The awards were announced by the chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Rahul Rawail; Nila Madhab Panda, chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury; and Gangadhar Mudalair, chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.
The winners will receive their awards from the President of India at the awards ceremony. This year’s jury comprised Rahul Rawail, the Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda, the Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, and Gangadhar Mudalair, the Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.
In 2023, the 69th edition of the National Film Awards, the Best Actor Award was won by Allu Arjun for Pushpa: The Rise. Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon shared the Best Actress award for Gangubai Kathiawadi and Mimi, respectively. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect won the award for Best Feature Film.
