The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts NDA ( National Defence Academy) and Navel Academy entrance exam twice every year. This is a national level exam for recruiting eligible candidates into training academies of Indian Navy, Army and Air force. Candidates who qualify in the written exam will have to attend interview conducted by SSB (Services Selection Board) and also undergo medical tests to earn entry into the NDA. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release NDA 1 notification 2024 on December 20, 2023. The application form for NDA 1 2024 will be available from December 20, 2023 to January 9, 2024. NDA 1 2024 exam will be conducted on April 21, 2024. NDA 2 notification 2024 will be released on May 15, 2024 NDA 2 application form 2024 will be available from May 15 to June 4, 2024. NDA 2024 exam will be conducted on September 1, 2024.

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for recruitment into NDA has been released by the UPSC in their official notification. Candidates are recruited after considering certain factors like nationality, marital status, age, educational qualification, physical and medical fitness.
NDA Eligibility Criteria – Nationality
To be considered eligible for recruitment based on nationality, a candidate should be any one of the following:
- A citizen of India
- A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
- A Tibetan refugee who moved to India, before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling here permanently
- A PIO (Person of Indian origin). The nationals from the following countries would fall under this category such as Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam.
Note: Apart from citizens of India, all other candidates must have a certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government of India. This certificate will not be needed in the case of those candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
NDA Eligibility Criteria – Educational Qualification
Army wing | 10 + 2 or an equivalent from a recognized board |
Airforce and Naval wing | 10 + 2 or an equivalent from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics |
Note: Candidates who are appearing for the class 12 or equivalent examination can also apply
NDA Eligibility Criteria – Marital Status
Only unmarried male and female candidates will be considered for the NDA recruitment. Candidates should not marry until they complete their training. Those who marry during the training will be discharged and will have to refund all expenditure spend on them by the government.
NDA Eligibility Criteria – Physical Fitness
Physical standards has been set by the NDA for recruitment of candidates. The NDA criteria would vary slightly according to the post the candidate is applying for.
Height and weight requirements
- The minimum height prescribed for male candidates is157 cm. In case of Air Force it is 162.5 cm. Some exceptions are applicable for candidates based on the region from where they belong. Some standards like sitting height, leg length and thigh length are also required by the Air Force.

Candidates must not be suffering from any of the following minor conditions:
- Wax (Ears)
- Deviated Nasal Septum
- Hydrocele / Phimosis
- Condition of Overweight / Underweight
- Under Sized Chest
- Piles
- Tonsillitis
- Gynaecomastia
- Varicocele
Guidelines regarding tattoo
- The candidate must ensure that any permanent body tattoos are present only on the inner side of the forearm.
- Under no circumstances, UPSC accepts tattoos on the inside of the elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of the hand.
- Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are also not acceptable
- In case the candidate belongs to a tribe where it is customary to have tattoo marks on the face or body, acceptance will be granted on a case-to-case basis, considering the traditions involved.
Eligibility of Female Candidates
Women candidates were initially not considered for NDA. In 2021, Supreme court passed an interim order permitting female candidates to apply for admission to NDA. However certain criteria like physical parameters may be different form that of male candidates.
NDA Exam 2024 Syllabus
The UPSC has released the syllabus for the NDA entrance exam of 2024. The NDA exam is of two papers. Paper 1 will be mathematics and paper 2 will be GAT (General Ability Test). GAT comprises of English, general knowledge, physics, chemistry, general science, history and geography. The mathematics paper will have 120 questions of 300 marks and GAT will have English and General Knowledge papers of 200 & 400 marks respectively.
