History of Bennington Battle Day 

The recapturing of Fort Ticonderoga in July 1777 triggered the Bennington Battle. It was the first major push to kick start the rivalry between the British and the American soldiers. The recaptured Fort was clubbed into New England. The recapturing was a strategical movement that was done under the command of General John Burgoyne. The recapturing aimed at the establishment of the solo authority by cutting them off from the other colonies. The history of the Bennington Battle would be incomplete if we are not talking about Fort Ticonderoga’s recapturing. The raiding party was led by German colonel Friedrich Baum and was dispatched on August 9^th 1777.

The raiding party of  Burgoyne was dispatched for the purpose of treasuring the supply lines, making the boundary lines strong and making a great advancement for the troops. The rivals made a plan to plunder and loot the military supplies from Bennington, Vermont. The raiding party had succeeded in the initial stage. the total number of raiding troops were 800 and they had won in the first stage of the battle with a group of American militia. Who led the battle? The battle was led by the proud and polished Vermont Brigadier General John Stark which took place on August 14th 1777.

The regrouping of beaten American Soldiers had a role to play in the crucial wartime. On the 16^th of August 1777, they had braced themselves to face the worst. They had enhanced their strategies. The first attack was tactically planned by the American Group. They intercepted Britain British five north of Bennington. Stark gave several directions to the soldiers and thus the Americans attacked the British. On the battlefield, Colonel Baum was fatally wounded.

The Britishers had surrendered shortly as they had no energy or supplies to fight back against the Americans. Thus reduced the war appetite of the Britishers. Almost 42 American soldiers were wounded in the war with a loss of 30 troops. The British had captured almost 700 troops. Around 207 soldiers were dead from the British side. It was a fatal blow for both groups. The Bennington Victory boosted American soldiers. Following this victory, the American group had defeated  Burgoyne at the Battle of Saratoga. Both these victories together turned out to be a great turning point in the American Revolution. For the purpose of the commemoration of the battle of Bennington, the historical park near Walloons was built by the then government in power. It was a huge mesmerizing,  306-foot (93-metre) monument at the village of Old Bennington. The Bennington battle day is a public holiday every year and government offices will be closed on that particular day. Federal offices will remain enclosed as it is unaffected by this public holiday.
