CLAT 2022 Counselling will start from July 2022 after the declaration of CLAT results. It will be held through online mode. CLAT 2022 Counselling will be conducted for admission to UG and PG law degree Programmes. The courses will be offered by CLAT participating institutions, including NLUs, government and private institutions. The admission will be provided through centralized counselling.
The counselling process starts with seat allotment as per the preferences marked by candidates in their application form. The seat allotment will be done on merit-cum-preference basis. Candidates those names appear in the merit list will be called for the counselling. After a few days of the declaration of written result, the authority will release the merit list in which candidates must check their names.

CLAT Counselling 2022
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level law entrance exam. CLAT 2022 will be conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The CLAT Consortium will begin the counselling process of qualified candidates after publishing merit lists for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The CLAT score card is considered by various private and government law colleges in India.
Candidates can choose to accept or upgrade their allotted seat. Once their choice of seat is allotted then they can complete their admission by paying the counselling and admission fee as required. The counselling process takes place normally in four rounds.
Candidates who are included in the CLAT invite list are eligible for participating in the counselling process. The invite list can go up to 5 times the amount of seats in the general category.

CLAT Counselling Procedure 2022
The CLAT centralized counselling takes place through online mode. Given below is the detailed process which the candidates can follow to participate in the CLAT counselling 2022 successfully.
How to Register for CLAT 2022 Counselling?
Registration marks the first step for attending the counselling for CLAT 2022. The candidates can enroll for counselling online by following the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Login to the registered accounts
Firstly, candidates need to login to their registered accounts by following the below steps:
- Visit the official website of CLAT 2022- https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/
- Enter mobile number and password in the space provided on the Home page
- Click on Login
- Click on the counselling registration link
Step 2: Update NLU preferences
Next, candidates need to update their preferences for minimum five National Law Universities (NLUs). There are total 22 NLUs in India that offer five-year integrated LLB courses to students basis their CLAT score. On the hand, total 19 NLUs in India offer LLM courses to students basis their CLAT score.
Candidates are advised to update their preferences only after gaining sufficient knowledge about the NLUs, their courses, fees, seats and more. It may be noted that once the counselling registration process is over, candidates will be considered for admission only in the NLUs selected by them. They will not be considered for admission in any other NLU.

Step 3: Pay CLAT counselling fee
Lastly, candidates need to pay the CLAT counselling fee of INR 50,000 in online mode via credit card/debit card/internet banking. A confirmation email will be sent on the registered email address and phone number of candidates once the fee is successfully paid.
It may be noted that it is mandatory for candidates to pay the counselling fee at this stage. Any candidate failing to pay the counselling fee will not be considered for admission. However, the counselling fee for CLAT 2022 will be adjusted with the course fee once a seat is allotted to a candidate. It may also be noted that mere counselling registration does not guarantee admission. The registration process is followed by CLAT seat allotment process 2022 in which candidates are allotted seats based on merit and their NLU preferences.

CLAT 2022 Seat Allotment
After registering, the Consortium will prepare a list of all the candidates in order of merit. The first seat allotment will be done on the basis of the CLAT merit list prepared. The candidates will then be given the following options.

| Accept the Seat | The candidate accepts the seat allotted to them at the NLU. They shall not participate in the further rounds of CLAT counselling 2022.The candidate may proceed to upload their documents online. |
| Apply for Upgrade | These candidates are dissatisfied with the seat allotted to them, and would like an upgrade. These candidates will be considered active participants in the upcoming round of seat allotment. |
| Exit From the Seat Allotment | The candidate would like to withdraw their candidature. INR 40,000 will be refunded back to their accounts, after a deduction of the processing charges. |
The Consortium of NLUs will publish three seat allotments. The candidates must note that if they don’t get a seat till the third round, the INR 30,000 deposited by them will be refunded.

CLAT Counselling 2022 FAQs
Q. Is it possible to change the NLU chosen subsequently?
Ans. No, changing the NLUs chosen is not possible once the candidate has submitted their counselling registration form.
Q. Who are waitlisted candidates?
Ans. The seat allotment list published by the conducting authorities has the names of various candidates classified into two categories. The candidates who are “selected” will be granted provisional admission. If they don’t take admission, their seat is granted to the highest-ranked waitlisted candidates.
Q. What does the ‘Lock’ option do?
Ans. The candidates who are satisfied with the seat given to them and would like to reserve and proceed with the other admission related formalities need to ‘lock’ their choice.
Q. What if I forget to lock my seat?
Ans. If the candidate does not lock their choice, the default choice will be locked.
Q. Will the Consortium refund my counselling fee if I am not interested in taking admission?
Ans. The counselling fee, once paid, is not refunded. The applicants who withdraw their candidature by the specified date will receive a refund of INR 20,000 after deducting the processing fee.
