Listen To Other People Speak

If you’re like most people, then you know how important it is to listen as well as speak. But it’s also a known fact that Indians have their own way of speaking—and it’s called Hinglish. But learning a foreign language involves listening to what native speakers say, and not just imitating them. By listening to others speak, you will understand not only pronunciation but also tones and accents so that they can be applied appropriately while speaking in English. With time, your ears will grow accustomed to hearing English words being spoken properly by native speakers—and soon enough you’ll be able to mimic their accent as well!

Give Your Full Attention While Talking

Often we tend to think about many things simultaneously while talking. But give your full attention to whomever you are speaking with and listen carefully. Once you really grasp what someone is saying, you will be able to express yourself much better. Be an active listener and provide feedback by nodding your head or even saying yup or I know. Let that person know that you have understood what he/she is saying by following his/her ideas with your body language instead of letting him/her feel bored when they are talking. If they feel they have been heard, they will continue talking more easily and better quality of dialogue results in a much better learning experience for both of you!

You must have heard phrases like what’s up? or how are you doing? from your friends before talking to someone else. You can use these types of phrases also if you want to build your fluency in English by speaking slang words. It will help you understand how they speak and thus make it easier for you to connect with them over there while talking on the phone or during an informal conversation at home.

Use Simple Examples During Conversations

Never speak with complex sentences. Use simple examples to make your point clear to them. If you are telling them about an event or a place, do not use language which is abstract or theoretical. Make sure to use a few examples, details, and anecdotes so that they can easily relate to it. For example: instead of saying My work profile has recently changed., you can say I have changed my work profile recently. Instead of saying Did you watch a movie?, say Did you watch Aamir Khan’s latest movie?. Never speak in theoretical terms otherwise they will never understand what you are trying to say!

If you are not comfortable with having private sessions, then you can follow him or her while they are going around doing their daily activities. It could be watching TV, reading the newspaper or chatting with others, etc. By doing so, you will be able to pick up a variety of expressions in real-time and situations that will help you improve your pronunciation and delivery of spoken English within no time.
