The Chairmanship is the highest designation of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) found in 1962 with Vikram Sarabhai as its first chairperson. The ISRO is INOSPAR in its modern form which was made by Vikram Sarabhai in 1969. Prof. Satish Dhawan served the longest term of 12 years as the Chairman of ISRO, in memory of him ISRO has renamed Sriharikota Range, Sriharikota as Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), in 2002.
