Category A | Higher Secondary (or it’s comparable) with at least 50% grades and a two-year Elementary Education diploma (CT or D.El.Ed.).
Or A 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in line with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002, and a Higher Secondary (or it’s equivalent) degree with at least 45% of the whole marks. Or Minimum 50% in Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). Or At least 50% in Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) and a 2-year Education Diploma (Special Education). Or Graduation and a two-year diploma in elementary education (under whatever name it is called). Or Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed. ), on the condition that the person who has acquired the qualification of Bachelor of Education from any NCTE Recognized Institution shall be considered for appointment as a teacher in classes I to V, provided that the person so appointed as a teacher shall mandatorily undergo a six month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognised by the NCTE, within two years of such appointment as a primary teacher. |
Category B | Graduation with a two-year diploma in elementary education (under whatever name it may be known).
Or Graduation with at least 50% and a one-year bachelor’s degree in education (B.Ed.). Or Graduation with at least 45% grades and a one-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in line with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations released from time to time. Or Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% grades and a four-year Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). Or Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% grades and a four-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed. Or Graduation with at least 50% and one year of B.Ed (Special Education). Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, SEBC, and PWD categories will be allowed a 5% mark relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks in Higher Secondary or graduation level, as applicable, and candidates with minimum marks in Higher Secondary or graduation level, as applicable, prescribed at the time of admission in teacher education courses will also be eligible to appear in OTET. |
Category C | Persons with a D.Ed. (Special Education) or B.Ed (Special Education) credentials must complete an NCTE-recognized 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education after being appointed.
Or Persons with qualifications or in the last year of any of the teacher education courses (approved by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) may enter the category for which they are eligible. Following the declaration of their eligibility, the government would notify them of their ability to appear in examination papers. Or Persons designated as eligible by the State Government/NCTE/Government of India from time to time. |

OSSTET 2022 Exam Pattern
- The OTET will consist of two papers, Paper I and Paper II.
- Each paper’s test will last a total of 2 and half hours.
- All of the questions will be multiple-choice, each worth one mark, with four possible answers, only one of which will be the right one. The purpose of the questions is to judge the candidate’s capacity for subject matter analysis, interpretation, and application.
- The question papers for topics other than languages must be bilingual, that is, in both English and Odia.
- The following languages will be available in Language I: Bengali, Telugu, Urdu, Odia, and Hindi. For the Language-I subject, the candidate must select one of the aforementioned languages.
- All candidates must take English as their Language II course.
- There will be no negative marking.
