He always had a dream of a developed nation for which he did many deeds including the National Education Policy in 1986, reduced Licence Raj, and included Panchayati Raj. He was the one whose contribution to the development of the nation is benefiting us at present. Sadbhavana Diwas is observed throughout the country, On the occasion of Sadbhavana Diwas, every Indian takes a pledge every year so that the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi once had could come true as we move forward to brighter and better tomorrow. The pledge is given below:
“I take this solemn pledge that I will work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, region, religion, or language. I further pledge that I shall resolve all differences among us through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence.”
About Rajiv Gandhi:
- Rajiv Gandhi was born on 20th august 1944 in Mumbai, as Rajiv Ratna Gandhi.
- He was the son of former prime minister Indira Gandhi and Feroze Gandhi.
- He was known as Father Of Information Technology and Telecom Revolution in India.
- After the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi at the age of 40 he became the youngest prime minister of India and served from 1984 to 1989.
- At the age of 46 he was killed in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, TamilNadu on May 21,1991.
The All India Congress Committee has also instituted the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award to commemorate the contributions of the former Prime Minister. It carries a commendation and cash award of Rs.5 lakh. The award is hand out upon those having contributed to the promotion of peace, communal harmony and national integration.
