The Government of India has published the list of the cleanest cities in the country on November 20, 2021. The honorable President of India Ram Nath Kovind has conferred the awards for the cleanest cities in a ceremony that took place at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA) under the Government of India and the name of the event hosted by the Union Ministry was ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’. The award that the Honourable President of India conferred to the cleanest cities is called as Swachh Survekshan awards. Indore
Indore won the Swachh Survekshan award for the cleanest city in India this year. It is the fifth time in a row that Indore is being selected as the cleanest city in the country. Indore is the biggest as well as the most populous city in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Indore has also been declared as India’s first ‘water plus’ city under the Swachh Survekshan 2021. Indore became the only Indian city to be selected for International Clean Air Catalyst Programme.

Surat ranked second in the survey for analyzing the annual cleanliness conducted by the Government of India in 2021. Surat is located at the banks of the river Tapti. Vijayawada is the third cleanest city in the country. Vijayawada is formerly known as Bezawada and is the largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a part of the de facto state capital region Amaravati. It lies on the banks of the Krishna River. Vijayawada occupied the sixth position in 2020 as the cleanest city in the country and has jumped three positions this year.

Bhopal is ranked in the seventh position this year among the cleanest cities in the country. Out of 6000, Bhopal received 4783.53 points securing the seventh position in the cleanest city category. Bhopal was ranked as the second cleanest city in the country in 2017 and 2018 but slipped to rank 19 in 2019.

According to the latest survey reports submitted by the Government of India, Vadodara ranks in the eighth position among the cleanest city in the country.

Also one of the biggest seaports in the country, Vishakhapatnam has a certain importance in the social as well as the economic history of the country. And as per the MOHUA reports on the 6th edition of Swachh Survekshan, it is said that Vishakhapatnam is among the top 10 cleanest cities in the country. In 2021, Vishakhapatnam is ranked as the 9th cleanest city in the country.

The last entry to this list is the 10th cleanest city in India. As per the MOHUA reports of 2021, this position is now occupied by Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad is a city in the state of Gujarat and is one of the most important economic hubs of the country.
