Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) exams twice every year to recruit the best personnel to serve the country. The recruitment will be for all the wings of NDA – Army, Navy and Airforce. The NDA 1 2022 written exam will be conducted on April 10, 2022.
UPSC NDA selection will be based on the written exam as well as the interview conducted by SSB. Candidates will have to pass both the phases to be eligible for recruitment. Candidates who qualify in the written test will be called for the SSB interview.

NDA Selection Process 2022
Aspiring candidates might have already applied for the vacancies. Now it’s time to get into preparations for the exam. A thorough knowledge of the exam pattern and selection process helps the candidates in their preparation. The UPSC NDA selection process will be in two phases – Written Test and SSB Interview. Candidates who cross both these stages will be subject to medical tests as well. Only those who pass these tests will be finally recruited.

NDA Selection Process 2022: Written Test
Phase 1 of the UPSC NDA selection is the written test.
- The exam will be of objective type questions.
- NDA 2022 exam will be a 900 marks exam divided into two sections – Mathematics and General Ability Test.
- The duration of exam will be 180 minutes.
- Question booklets of both the papers will be in both English and Hindi.
- For Mathematics- 2.5 marks will be awarded for a correct answer and 0.33 marks will be deducted for wrong answers.
- For GAT- 4 marks will be awarded for a correct answer and 0.33 marks will be deducted for wrong answers.
- Minimum marks for qualification will be decided by the commission participating in the selection process.
- Results will be published by UPSC on it’s official website.

NDA Selection Process 2022: SSB Interview
1: Which one of the following is not a Harappan site?
Candidates who have qualified in the written exam will be called for the second stage i.e. Service Selection Board (SSB) interview.
- SSB Interview will be of 900 marks.
- Information regarding the exam center and interview dates will be updated by UPSC in it’s official website.
SSB interview will be in two stages:
Stage 1: Stage 1comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT). Candidates should pass this test to move on to the next stage.
Stage 2: In stage 2 candidates will be assessed by the Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO), and the Psychologist. These tests might span for a duration of four days. The candidates will have to go through interview, Group Testing Officer tasks, Psychology tests and Final Conference.
Note: Candidates who have given Airforce as their primary choice and all the other candidates who has given Airforce as one of their choice should separately qualify the Pilot Aptitude Test (PABT) and Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

NDA Selection Process 2022: Medical Test
Once the SSB interview results are out, the shortlisted candidates will have to appear before the medical board for the medical tests. It usually takes 4 to 5 days for the concerned Military Hospital to complete the medical board examination. President of the medical board will guide the candidates for appeal (if any)regarding the medical board procedures. Candidates may seek the advice of President Special Medical Board for review in case they have been declared unfit.
Candidates can be disqualified if they were previously accepted into the Indian Naval Academy’s NDA but were later removed due to lack of desired qualities or disciplinary reasons. Also note that the candidates who were previously removed from the NDA or the Indian Naval Academy due to medical reasons or who voluntarily left are eligible for admission if they pass the medical fitness test.

There are four SSB centers for Indian Army located in four states of India:
- Allahabad
- Bhopal
- Bangalore
- Kapurthala
There are four SSB centers for Indian Airforce in four states:
- AFSB Dehradun
- AFSB Mysore
- AFSB Gandhinagar
- AFSB Varanasi
The centers for SSB interview for Indian Navy are as follows:
- Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
- 33 SSB at SSC, Bhopal
- 12 SSB at SCS, Bangalore

NDA Selection Age
All candidates should be unmarried and in the age group 16 – 19 years to be considered as an eligible candidate for UPSC NDA exams.
Procedures After NDA Final Selection
The candidates will be selected by the committee on the basis of their performance in all the three stages. The selected candidates will be given preliminary academic and physical training for a period of 3 years at the National Defence Academy. Air Force Cadets are given flying training for a period of one and half years. During the training period, candidates will be paid a stipend of Rs. 56100 per month. Once the training is completed, the candidate will be commissioned as a Lieutenant with a pay scale of Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77, 500 along with additional allowances.
