The Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO) Grade-II Executive post is a General Central Service, Group ‘C’ (Non-gazetted, Non-Ministerial) post with all India service liability. Selected candidate’s appointment to the ACIO post will be temporary only. However, appointment in permanent capacity will depend on various factors governing permanent appointment in such posts in force at that time. Works and identity of Intelligence Burea officials are always hiding from the media eyes. Their job demands that anonymously for their own security. Assistant Intelligence Officer Grade-II is similar to the Inspector rank in the state police services. They would be posted for fieldwork to acquire intelligence required for maintaining the state security. ACIO-II has a multidimensional job profile in the organization. Even though the ACIO and Inspectors have similar rank, we cant compare their jobs since the responsibilities of ACIO has more sensitive as well as dangerous. You will join the Intelligence Bureau in ACIO Grade II executive posts, after clearing the written tests and personal interview. For a year you will be under probation training, where you will undergo both physical as well as mental transformation. Once you completed the training you will get posted in any of the Indian districts under a senior official to make yourself familiar with the fieldwork. Some get border area or Naxal areas while some will be posted in any normal town areas.
You can join the IB as a Group-A service if you are working in IPS cadre, and they are responsible for the administration and higher-level intelligence operations in the country. There are various Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaus (SIBs) in the country which are headed by officers of the rank of Joint Director or above. These SIBs have their units at district levels headed by Assistant Director (AD) or Deputy Central Intelligence Officers (DCIO). These offices serve as the organic linkage between the state police agencies and the IB officials. To keep track of issues like terrorism, counter-intelligence, VIP security, threat assessment and sensitive areas (i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal Areas, etc IB have dedicated staffs and offices.
In the Intelligence Bureau, the officers are either directly recruited or are deputed from CAPFs and Armed Forces. Officers in the lower grade are directly recruited while ACIO Grade-I onwards the positions are filled from deputation basis only.
Career Growth in IB Services
IB recruits Security Assistants, Junior Intelligence Officer II, Junior Intelligence Officer I, and Assistant Junior Intelligence Officer II through common recruitment tests. After serving the organization for three to four years you can appear for the departmental tests. IB officers can also opt for the deputation in RAW, CBI, etc
