All of us are aware of the red ribbon and its connection to AIDS. Wearing a ribbon is a simple way of showing support for people who have to suffer from AIDS. In the same way, to support the CANCER patients & survivors different colors of ribbons is using across the globe. It’s a way to spread awareness and send a message of solidarity to all the fighters. Cancer Ribbon Colors and Meanings
In the 1990s, the breast cancer survivor Charlotte Hayey introduced the concept of a peach-colored breast cancer awareness ribbon. She distributed thousands of ribbons at supermarkets with cards that read: “The National Cancer Institute annual budget is $1.8 billion, only 5 per cent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon.” As the word spreads more people join this moment and now across the world different colors are using to provide solidarity to the survivors and the patients.
The colors for the most common types of cancer include:
- Lung cancer: White
- Brain cancer: Grey
- Breast cancer: Pink
- Liver cancer: Emerald Green
- Lymphoma: Lime Green
- Liver cancer, and Gall bladder cancer: Green
- Prostate cancer: Light blue
- Stomach cancer: Periwinkle blue
- Bone cancer: Yellow
- Leukaemia, Kidney cancer: Orange
- Colon cancer: Dark blue
- Carcinoid cancer: Zebra Print
- Cervical Cancer: Teal and White
- Childhood Cancer: Gold
