Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is today going to close the online applications for recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade “C” (Group B- Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade “D” (Group C- Non-Gazetted) in various Ministries/ Departments organizations in the Government of India. All such candidates who have yet not submitted the online applications are advised to fill up their applications before 11 pm today.
Selected Stenographers will be appointed in various central service departments across India for the pay scale of Rs. 9,300-34,800 (Grade C), and Rs. 5,200-20,200 (grade D).Last year SSC has published 1705 vacant posts across the country, this year too we can expect around 1500 vacant positions. - Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments.
- The skill test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards for different categories of candidates.
- The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’.
- The matter will have to be transcribed on the computer.
The transcription time is as follows:-
- For Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 50 minutes (English), and 65 minutes (Hindi)
- For Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 40 minutes (English)

SSC Stenographers Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Eligibility
- Education Qualification: Candidates should be at least 12th pass (Higher Secondary) from a recognized Board or University. He/ She must be able to produce the required documents when asked for during the document verification stage after qualifying the written examination, and skill test. The age relaxation for different category of students is as follows:
- Age Limit: Candidates age shall be between 18 years – 30 years for Grade C and should be between 18 years -27 years to be eligible for SSC Stenographer 2020 Grade D. There would be permissible relaxation in upper age limit as specified in government orders.

How to Apply Online for SSC Stenographer Exam?
To start your SSC JE 2020 application, candidates must register themselves in the One Time Registration. For One-time Registration, click on the Register Now link provided in Login Section on the SSC official website: Click Here. You must have a valid email id, mobile number, and digital copy of your photograph, and signature to complete the process. On One Time Registration, enter your basic details, including matriculation or SSLC registration number and should upload the recent photograph and signature. Once you enter your basic details and click on the save icon. Your Registration Number and Password will be sent to you, on your mobile number and Email ID. Save those details for future uses.
You can now login using your Registration Number as username and the password provided to you. Change your password, if you wish. After the registration process, the “Basic Details” can be changed only twice.
Steps for SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ 2020 Application
- Log in to the SSC Official website through your Registration Number and password: Click Here
- Under the “Latest Notification”, click on the “Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ examination 2020” tab.
- Click on the “Apply” link.
- Your basic details will get automatically update on the application form, you need to select whether you are in the EWS section or not.
- Answer the question: “Do you possess knowledge of Stenography?”.
- Select your desired choices of examinations. You can select up to three centres.
- Select the Post you are applying for.
- Select your desired medium of Skill Test, English/ Hindi.
- Indicate your Ex-Servicemen and departmental candidates’ eligibility if applicable.
- Upload your recent photograph and signature.
- Check the declaration and click on the “I agree” checkbox and fill up the Captcha code.
- Preview and verify the information and submit the Application.
- Unreserved male candidates have to pay Rs.100/ as application fees.
- Once you complete the application process, you will receive the confirmation message on your registered email, and mobile.
