Every Government exam aspirant should be aware of the announcement recently made by conducting a Common Examination for all Government Exams due to the malpractices and fraudulent activities being induced in the process of conduct for such exams. A bill was passed in Rajya Sabha on March 14, 2018, for conducting transparency in government examinations. A Common Eligibility Test will now be organized for all the competitive examinations to select candidates for the vacancies of Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and Lower level posts. In this blog we will discuss about Common Eligibility Test (CET) – 2020 Pros and Cons.
This CET will be conducted by SSC and SSC’s stature should be given autonomy at par with the UPSC (recommended by the committee under the chairmanship of Shri I.M.G Khan).
However, it is not yet officially revealed and will be treated as a supposition until it is proclaimed on the papers.

Why has CET been Introduced?
Recently, the SSC Board had to recommend for a CBI enquiry into allegations pertaining to the conduct of CGL (Tier-II) Examination. Such cancellation of exams is a complete waste of efforts and resources of both the aspirants and the Government and darkens the image of the Commission in the eyes of the public. Aspirants lose their precious time and effort that they have put in preparing for those exams.

We have mentioned below few of the reasons why CET (Common Eligibility Test) was proposed by the government to the Rajya Sabha on March 14, 2018;

- The Candidates will have a better mental state as their won’t be any irregularities and disorder in the conduction process of the examination.
- A proper plan with designated Committee will be set up to deal with challenges with operational workload and low manpower.

Common Eligibility Test (CET) Registration Process
In order to start the process under the amended system, candidates must register themselves on a dedicated portal developed by National Career Services (NCS), Ministry of Labor and Employment, which will provide a unique ID for each candidate.
CET will be organized at three levels at low levels:
(i) Matriculation level
(ii) Higher Secondary (10 + 2) level
(iii) Graduation level

| 1.CET will reduce the number of examinations conducted by the various agencies of the government. | 1. It would be a huge drawback for the candidates preparing for Public Service Commission Examinations in Regional Languages. Because as per the committee Government will be conducting the CET only in English and Hindi medium. CET Exam will not be conducted in regional languages. |
| 2.It will save the important money spent by various recruitment agencies to organize these examinations. | 2. According to the estimation, around 5 crores candidates might be registering for all of the above CET level exams. This would increase the competition level to the next level. |

In February 2019, CET – Graduation Level Exam will only be conducted. Other CET level exams will be conducted when commission acquires the necessary capability to conduct exam in the 8th schedule languages. This score will help aspirants to appear for Tier II examinations which would be conducted independently by the respective recruiting agencies like SSC, Bank, Railway and other exams. | 4. Please Note: As per the information provided by the Commission, the SSC has had to cancel Nine Recruitment examinations, fully or partially, in past five years.
