The Civil Services Examination, conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted for recruitment to higher Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. UPSC recruits candidates for both civil services as well as defense services. These are highly competitive in nature and requires quite a lot of preparation. Aspirants usually have a tough time choosing the right materials as there are countless options available at the fingertips. IAS Rajeshwari B took to Twitter on World Book Day to share the secret of her success in the UPSC exam. She shared a picture of the books that she used and the notes that she prepared to clear the UPSC exam. “When I visited home recently I found my books & notes that I used/made during my UPSC prep. I asked for them to be sent to me… I got 10 cartons of books delivered!! “Can’t claim that I read all these books completely. There are many more books along with these. Some I definitely completed and reread. Some read once…Some referred as per need, so each has its importance,” she added in another tweet. She started preparing for the CSE in 2007 and also joined a coaching institute in Delhi. With all her preparations and hard work, it took Ms. Rajeshwari around three years to crack UPSC exam. She secure All India Rank 334 and became an IAS officer.

Rajeshwari B is an IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre. She is currently working as the she is the District Magistrate of Dumka, Jharkhand. She was also the Commissioner of MNREGRA in Jharkhand for a short period. She has been applauded for stupendous management of ‘Sawan Mela’ in Deoghar, in her previous posting as District Collector of Dumka, where more than one crore devotees visited the Shiva Temple in one month. Previously, she had worked in Garhwa and Ramgarh district as District Collector. People of both of these districts were highly impressed by her innovative ways of administration in a people friendly manner. She is also known for remaining at the forefront to fight the challenges brought forth by Covid-19.
Rajeshwari hails from the south Indian state of Karnataka. She studied at Coorg Public School (COPS) in Gonikoppal. Thereafter, she studied at the Marimallappa College in Mysuru. Rajeshwari graduated in history from Karnataka State Open University after which she also completed her BA in Political Science from the same college.
When asked why she chose UPSC, she said, ” An unexamined life is not worth living. And when I examine my life in the end, it will not be in terms of how much property, wealth and status I have made but it will be in terms of how worthwhile I have been to the society. This I can do as an NGO or social worker, but the confidence I require will be given to me only by civil services.”
