The Civil Services Examination, conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted for recruitment to higher Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. UPSC recruits candidates for both civil services as well as defense services. These are highly competitive in nature and requires quite a lot of preparation. Aspirants usually have a tough time choosing the right materials as there are countless options available at the fingertips. Apart from this, there are coaching centers which promise to prepare them in the best way.

IAS Rajeshwari B took to Twitter on World Book Day to share the secret of her success in the UPSC exam. She shared a picture of the books that she used and the notes that she prepared to clear the UPSC exam. “When I visited home recently I found my books & notes that I used/made during my UPSC prep. I asked for them to be sent to me… I got 10 cartons of books delivered!! Will be good to brush up… Reading is always empowering!! #WorldBookDay #book #books #Bookday #BookDay2022″, tweeted Rajeshwari B.

“Can’t claim that I read all these books completely. There are many more books along with these. Some I definitely completed and reread. Some read once…Some referred as per need, so each has its importance,” she added in another tweet. She started preparing for the CSE in 2007 and also joined a coaching institute in Delhi. With all her preparations and hard work, it took Ms. Rajeshwari around three years to crack UPSC exam. She secure All India Rank 334 and became an IAS officer.

When asked why she chose UPSC, she said, ” An unexamined life is not worth living. And when I examine my life in the end, it will not be in terms of how much property, wealth and status I have made but it will be in terms of how worthwhile I have been to the society. This I can do as an NGO or social worker, but the confidence I require will be given to me only by civil services.”
