RRB ASM Job Profile 2022

The Assistant Station Master (ASM) will be assigned as the in-charge of the running of trains at a station. He/She operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out by the Ministry of Indian Railway. ASM post will be under the Station Master job position. Assistant Station Master will be working in shifts. Large stations may have more than one ASM. They are selected for the post through Computer Based Tests, Medical tests, and Aptitude tests. The hierarchical order will be Assistant Station Master, Station Master, Station Superintendent, Assistant Operations Manager, and Divisional Operations Manager.

Duties of Assistant Station Master (ASM)

The Station Master is responsible for the management of other station employees like the Assistant Station Manager (ASM) and holds responsibility for safety and the efficient running of the station. The Assistant Station Master’s duty is to focus on personnel management and public relations. In the absence of the Station Master, an Assistant Station Master (ASM) should take charge of the station and track signals. And he/she has to work as a public relations officer too.  In large stations, the ASM role might be a full-time position.

A Station Master or Assistant Station Master would typically manage a number of booking clerks (responsible for ticket sales and financial auditing), porters (responsible for platform safety, luggage transportation, and cleaning), and often ancillary staff in catering, left luggage, and maintenance roles.

Assistant Station Master Pay Scale 

As mentioned earlier in the article, ASM is assigned with the duty to check out the running trains and their timings. usually, ASM works under the station masters who are the subordinate of the station superintendents. The pay scale of an entry-level Assistant Station Master is Rs. 5200/-. The pay scale of the Assistant Station Master might be raised to the amount of Rs. 20, 200/- per month. This amount includes basic pay and grade pay as well.

Assistant Station Master Basic Pay and Grade Pay

On average an ASM draws Rs.38, 360/- per month including the grade pay and the basic pay of an assistant station master draws is Rs. 8560/- per month on an average. The entry-level ASM receives Rs. 5200/- per month as basic pay.

• The grade pay will be fixed for all the ASMs, whether entry-level or experienced. The amount of grade pay paid to the ASM is Rs. 2800/- as per the 6^th pay commission.

Eligibility Criteria of ASM

The candidates are required to fulfill the following eligibility for appearing in the Assistant Station Master exam of RRB.

Nationality

A candidate must be either a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, etc.

Age Limit

The candidates must be minimum of 18 years old as of 1st July 2019 and the age must not exceed 32 years.

Educational Qualification

• The candidate must hold a graduation degree in any discipline obtained from any recognized board or University.
• A diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport (Containerization ) awarded by the Institute of Rail Transport, Rail Bhawan, New Delhi will be an additional desirable qualification for the candidate.
