Different Job Profiles under UPSC Services
IRS (IT, Custom and Central Excise)
IRS officers are the backbone of India’s taxation system, and they are one of UPSC’s most extensive services. They are responsible for appropriate policy interventions in Direct Taxes, which are formulated by IRS officers based on their field experience and other relevant inputs from various sources, and submitted to the Government through the CBDT. They are also responsible for negotiating International Agreements with other tax jurisdictions, as well as plugging misuse of funds.According to the established eligibility criteria, an IRS officer can be appointed to the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, the Authority for Advance Ruling, the Income Tax Settlement Commission, and the Income Tax Ombudsman.
Indian Civil Accounts Services
They are responsible for establishing and maintaining a technically sound accounting system in the Departmentalized Accounts Office, as well as prescribing basic accounting concepts, systems, and forms. Indian Railway Traffic Service

UPSC Civil Service Exam Job Profile 2022: Salary Allowance and Benefits
In addition to the basic salary, the IAS Salary includes allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), and Travel Allowance (TA). With more experience, the compensation of IAS officers will climb. The Cabinet Secretary’s basic salary is Rs. 2,50,000. A DA, HRA, and TA are all available to IAS officers.
Total Salary of an IAS Officer = Basic Pay + DA + TA + HRA
HRA (House Rent Allowances)
The HRA ranges from 8% to 24% of the basic salary. If you live in official housing, however, the HRA amount will not be credited to your paycheck.
The HRA is also determined by the city in which the candidates are placed.
DA (Dearness Allowances)
In the case of DA, this portion is linked to inflation, as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission. It’s also worth noting that in 2015, DA for IAS Officers grew by 107 percent of their basic salary. As a result, the DA portion will see a large growth in the future. On a six-monthly basis, DA is increased (in January and July every year). The increase in DA would be in accordance with the inflation rate (CPI).
TA (Travel Allowances)
The Travel Allowances (TA) will be used to cover a variety of travel expenses. If an IAS officer is given a government vehicle, however, he or she does not receive any TA.
