The main aim of UPRVUNL was to construct new thermal power projects in the state. UP State Electricity Board(U.P.S.E.B) was responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity within the state until the year 2000. On January 14 in the year 2000 in according to the U.P State Elctr Reforms Act 1999 and U.P Electricity reforms transfer scheme 2000 U.P.S.EB was unbundled and operation of the thermal power stations within the state was handed over to UPRVUNL.
