ACCA 2027: What Exactly Is Changing?
From July/September 2027, ACCA is rolling out a redesigned qualification with fewer papers, new subject combinations, and a strong focus on technology, data and sustainability.
The current structure with 13 papers will be replaced by a new structure with 11 exams spread across three levels: Knowledge, Expertise and Strategic Professional.
Key high‑level changes include:
- Reduction from 13 to 11 exams
- New level names – “Skills” becomes “Expertise”
- New and updated papers (for example, Audit, Risk & Control and Performance with Data Analysis)
- New employability modules at every level (ethics, digital, sustainability focus)
- New optional paper in Data Science at the professional level
These changes apply for exams from September 2027 onwards (Knowledge level from July 2027), while all exams up to June 2027 will continue under the current syllabus.

New ACCA Exam Structure (From 2027)
From 2027, the ACCA qualification is organised into three main levels: Knowledge, Expertise and Strategic Professional.
Knowledge Level (K1–K3)
- K1 Financial Accounting
- K2 Management Accounting
- K3 Business Law
These three exams build core accounting, costing and business law knowledge and are supported by an Essential Employability Module called Responsible Business Management.
On completion of this level and the module, students earn the Higher Diploma in Accounting and Business.
Expertise Level (E1–E5)
The former Skills level is redesigned into the Expertise Level with five mandatory exams:
- E1 Taxation
- E2 Financial Reporting
- E3 Audit, Risk and Control
- E4 Finance and Investment
- E5 Performance with Data Analysis
These papers aim to build broad, practical finance and audit skills with an explicit focus on risk, control and data‑driven performance analysis.
Students at this level must also complete the Digital Tech and Innovation employability module and, after passing all five exams plus the module, receive the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business.
Strategic Professional Level (S1–S2 + Options)
At Strategic Professional, students complete:

ACCA – Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Students with a minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent) and two A Levels (or equivalent) in five separate subjects, including Mathematics and English can apply.
- Candidates with a recognized degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- Candidates with a degree in an area other than accounting are still eligible to pursue ACCA certification, but they still need to pass all required exams.
Professional Qualification
Candidates with professional qualifications, such as CIMA, ICAEW, or CPA can apply.
Age Requirement
There is no specific age requirements for ACCA students. But to enter the prefessional level exam students must be atleast 18 years old.
Exemption Eligibility
Candidates who are qualified with relevent subjects previously ACCA allows some exemptions. The exemption eligibility is based on the course content and the institution where the candidate qualified from.
Language Proficiency
Candidates must be proficient in English language, as the medium of exam is English.
How Long Does It Take To Complete ACCA?
Generally it takes 2 to 5 years to complete the ACCA qualification, but it may varies depending upon the situation of the students. For a full time student who solely dedicate their full time to pass all the exams on their first attempt, can complete in approximately 3 years. For a part time time student, it may extend upto 5 years.

ACCA Exemptions
If a candidates who want to qualify ACCA exams by skipping some of the papers by having some exemptions. These exemptions are called ACCA Exemptions. Exemptions are allowed for the candidates those who have a previous qualifications that cover the required knowledge. These exemptions are allowed for the candidates based on diploma, degree or any certification in acoounting or financial related field. However, there are no exemptions for professional level exams. Candidates who are supposed to be apply for exemptions can apply by submitting academic transcripts or certificates. Candidates can apply upto (F1 TO F9) ACCA fundamental level exams.
