OET is an international English language test that evaluates the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who desire to register and practice in an English-speaking background. OET Exam Syllabus 2022
OET covers all four language skills with stress on communication in a healthcare environment.
OET Listening Section
With a total period of 45 minutes, the Listening subtest contains a total of 42 questions split into 3 parts. Candidates would each hear the recorded speech once and would be asked to answer the questions while at it. The total period of the exam would contain dealing with topics of generic healthcare interests across all healthcare professions.
PART A (CONSULTATION EXTRACTS)
For the first task, healthcare professionals would be needed to identify specific information during a consultation. Candidates would be needed to finish the health professional notes from listening to the two recorded health professional-patient consultations.
PART B (SHORT WORKPLACE EXTRACTS)
For the second task, candidates would be needed to listen to multiple recorded sections that could range from team briefings, handovers, to health professional-patient dialogues and answer one multiple-choice question for each section. In the second part, the candidate is tested on determining details of short sections from the healthcare workplace.
PART C (PRESENTATION EXTRACTS)
The third and last task of the Listening section would need candidates to listen to multiple recorded presentations or interviews on a range of accessible healthcare topics and answer multiple-choice questions for each section.
OET Reading Section
With a total time of 60 minutes, the Reading section is made up of 42 questions, split into 3 parts. Candidates would be needed to answer the question of generic healthcare-related topics.
PART A (EXPEDITIOUS READING)
For the first task, candidates would be needed to read four short essays and locate specific information from the texts. The essays delivered to the candidates would be connected to general healthcare topics. The questions could change from matching the following, sentence completion to short answer questions.
PART B (CAREFUL READING)
For the second task, candidates would be given multiple short texts connected to generic healthcare topics and candidates would be needed to determine the main points and answer multiple-choice questions. The essays can contain topics ranging from policy guidelines, hospital guides, manuals, emails, memos to internal communication.
PART C (CAREFUL READING)
For the third and final task, about the Reading section, candidates would be needed to determine the detailed meaning of the topic supplied to them and answer multiple questions for the same.
Writing Section
With a total time of 45 minutes, the Writing section needs the candidate to write a letter, usually a letter of authority in his/her field of specialty. The candidate would be furnished with background information to his task which he may or may not incorporate into his authority letter. This particular task is profession-specific, thus while a nurse would have to write a letter specific to nursing a dentist would be needed to write an authority letter specific to dentistry.
Speaking Section
With a total period of 20 minutes, candidates are needed to individually pass their professional role in real-life scenarios in a professional healthcare environment. In a profession-specific exercise, candidates are needed to roleplay their profession while the panelist plays a patient for the first part, and the roles are changed in the latter. Candidates are given 3 minutes to train for each side before the start of each act. The roleplays are based on mock workplace situations that reflect the mood of the healthcare environment. The candidates would be given sufficient background information to train for their roleplay sessions.
OET Exam Pattern 2022
The OET exam pattern is split into four sections, the Listening Section, which is for 50 minutes in period and is made up of 3 parts; the Reading Section, which is for 60 minutes and split into 3 parts; the Writing Section, which is profession-specific and needs candidates to write a letter of recommendation and is for 45 minutes and yet the last section; the Speaking Section that needs the candidate to pass a setting from the healthcare environment in 20 minutes.

OET Registration 2022
Candidates looking to occur for their OET exam are needed to register for the OET Exam. Candidates would be needed to register through the online mode only via the official website. Candidates would have to first register on the official OET website by making an OET Login to proceed with their OET online registration.
To book your OET on paper simply:

The OET Exam Date is available in over 120 locations across 40 countries in the world, OET is contained multiple times every year.
