• UR seats exist in only 5 trades: TE01, TE02, TE04, TE05 and TE09. If you are a general category candidate, these are the only posts where you can compete for a dedicated unreserved seat.
• OBC (NCL) has seats in 8 trades: TE01, TE02, TE03, TE05, TE06, TE07, TE11 and TE13.
• EWS has seats in 5 trades: TE01, TE02, TE08, TE10 and TE12.
• SC has seats in 4 trades: TE01, TE02, TE04 and TE07.
• ST has a single seat, in TE08 (Electrician).
• The reserved seats carry the age relaxation for SC, ST and OBC. Candidates from those categories applying against UR seats get no age relaxation, as per the notification.

The notification describes the job requirement as providing skilled assistance to the Scientific & Technical Staff, or performing any other tasks specified by the competent authority.

Selected candidates must be ready to serve under the administrative control of the Director, CSIR-CFTRI, at the headquarters in Mysuru or its Resource Centres at Hyderabad, Mumbai and Lucknow. They can also be transferred to any CSIR lab or institute anywhere in India as and when needed.

Some practical points, based on the vacancy data above:

1. Apply only in the trade you hold. Your ITI, apprenticeship or experience must match the post code.
2. Check your category column in the matrix. If your category has no seat in your trade (for example, an SC candidate in Carpenter), you would compete only for unreserved seats if any exist, and category age relaxation would not apply.
3. Look at both reserved and unreserved seats. A candidate with a strong score can be considered for the unreserved seat in trades such as TE01, TE02, TE04, TE05 and TE09, depending on the merit list.
4. You can apply for multiple post codes if you are eligible for each. You need a separate application, fee and set of documents for every post code, and a separate envelope for each hard copy.
5. Trades with many seats are likely to see more applicants, and trades with one seat will be very competitive. This is my observation, not stated in the notification, so treat it as a general guide.
