Google introduced several new Gemini features at I/O 2025. Although all the features are promising, ‘Scheduled Actions’ is the talk of the town. On a simpler note, this feature lets you set Gemini to run specific prompts or tasks, which can be scheduled at a later time or even repeated regularly. It might not seem like much of a tweak, but it lets you interact with the AI in different ways. For example, you could ask Gemini to do a task later, and it would remember and do it for you at the specified time. Pretty cool, right?
Things You Can Do with this Feature
-
Daily Email Summaries
Yeah, it doesn’t sound very exciting or interesting, but the catch is that you get to give the “order” only once. If you tell Gemini to summarise your unread emails every morning, it will provide you with daily updates, instead of you asking every day for them. Interestingly, you could even ask Gemini to highlight important emails (like the ones from your boss) and skip emails marked as spam and newsletters. Basically, the “ease of use” here is that you get to get a summary of unread emails every day with a single request.
-
Weekly Plans from Calendar Events
Gemini can access your Calendar events and list them out upon request. With access to Google Maps, you can ask how far the dentist’s appointment is from your home, and it will give you accurate information. You could also ask for specific information, like what my total driving time is if there is another appointment on the same day, as well.
-
Scheduled Questions for a Specific Time
Let’s say you want to know the winner of the Academy Awards for Best Actor, during which you will be busy. Upon your request, Gemini can be scheduled to give you the answer once the event is done. This is a great way to make use of the AI and can even be used for complex tasks. You could schedule for a summary of the review of a particular movie reviewer for a particular movie, two days before its release.
-
Agent Mode
This is a developing stage feature and is not available now. In a demo, Gemeni was asked to search and provide a summary of apartments for rent every week. This kind of task requires more independence from Gemeni’s side, but it is possible in the future.
To view your Scheduled Actions, tap on your profile in the Gemini App -> Settings -> Scheduled Actions. You can pause and delete the actions as needed.

Limitations of ‘Scheduled Actions’
-
Subscription Needed
This feature is only for paid users and requires a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription. Also, this feature is only available in the US currently, and will be rolled out to other countries gradually.
-
Only 10 Actions Allowed
You can only schedule up to 10 actions at a time, including one-time and repeating actions.
-
Location can’t be updated
You can make requests based on location, like “Find a barber shop near me”. However, it will only show results based on the location where you created the first task. The location doesn’t get updated if you move to a new one.
Final Thoughts
The potential for Gemini as a superior assistant is increasing as it is evident through the breakthroughs the Google team is introducing every year. Over the years, we’ll see newer updates and features that inspire the AI scene altogether. On the whole, Gemini is raking up tough competition for other virtual assistants in the market.
