How to Crack German A2 Exam?
The German A2 exam is moderately difficult compared to A1 as it requires a deeper understanding of grammar and vocabulary. At this level, you should have basic command of tenses and more advanced sentence structures. This is achievable if you learn the language consistently. It requires 50 to 60 hours of guided learning. You have to expand your vocabulary especially those related to topics such as family, hobbies, food, travel, and daily routines. Adjective Endings
You should be able to comprehend how adjectives change based on gender and case.
Modal Verbs
You should be able to use the modal verbs to make requests and indicate preferences.
Comparatives and Superlatives
You should be able to compare things in greater detail.
Word Order Variations

Passing the German A2 exam indicates that the person:
- can understand and use sentences and common expressions needed in everyday situations.
- can describe his/ her background, education, immediate surroundings and other matters associated with your immediate needs in a simple way.
- can make oneself understood in simple situations where information on familiar and common topics has to be exchanged.
German A2 Exam Details
In order to prepare well for the exam, you should be aware of the structure of the paper. It is a 60 points exam and you have to score a minimum 36 points (60%) to pass the exam. The exam consists of four sections:
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking

Reading
The duration for this section is 30 minutes. and is of 20 points. You will have to read texts such as emails, articles, announcements, advertisements etc and answer the questions in the exercise based on what you have read.
There are 4 parts of the reading module.
- Part 1 (medium size text) – Complete the statements. There will be 5 questions for 5 points
- Part 2 (Shopping center info-board) – There will be 5 multiple choice questions for 5 points
- Part 3 (read the Email) – There will be 5 multiple choice questions for 5 points
- Part 4 – 5 points
Writing
This section is for 20 points. You will be asked to write messages related to your everyday environment. The duration is 30 minutes.
There are 2 parts in this section
- Part1 (write an SMS)
- Part2 (Letter/ email writing)
Listening
In this section, you will be asked to listen to everyday conversations, announcements and interviews on the radio, messages on the telephone and public announcements and complete exercises based on what you have heard. The duration of this section is 30 minutes and carries 20 points.
There are four parts in the listening module.
- Part 1 (5 dialogues, played twice) – 5 points for 5 questions – Multiple choice type.
- Part 2 (1 dialogue, played once) – 5 points for 5 questions – match the pictures.
- Part 3 (5 dialogues, played once) – 5 points for 5 questions – Multiple choice type.
- Part 4 (1 dialogue, played twice) – 5 points for 5 questions – Yes/No (True/False)
Speaking
You will have to indulge in conversation about yourself, your life and make agreements or negotiate with your conversation partner. The duration of this section is 15 minutes.
German A2 Exam Requirements
There are several levels of exam for German language, so it is very important that you go through the eligibility criteria in order to avoid confusion and disappointment in the future.
- This exam is open for all nationalities.
- The recommended age limit is 16 years and above.
- You must have German language skills corresponding to the second level of competence (A2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- You should have completed between 200 and 350 classes, of 45-minutes each. The number of classes depend on your previous knowledge and learning requirements.
