Onam (ഓണം – ചിങ്ങത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം നക്ഷത്രം)
Onam is the most important day in Malayalam and in the life of every Malayalee. Onam is also called the national festival of Kerala. It is the observance of a myth called the return of Mahabali. Mahabali was an asura king who ruled the land ideally. The Devas who got jealous of this approached Lord Vishnu and Vishnu incarnated in Vamana and came before Mahabali for help. Mahabali promised to fulfill any of his wishes. Vamana asked for three feet of land and Mahabali promised to give the same. Then Vamana transformed into a giant person and measured the entire earth and universe with his two footsteps. Since there was no place left to place the third step, Mahabali, to keep his promise, gave his head before him. Before going into the earth, Mahabali wished for coming once a year to see his subjects. Vamana agreed. The return of Mahabali is celebrated as the Onam. It is a remembrance and hope for a good and ideal land with all properties. Onam Sadhya is the important factor of Onam celebration.
Thrissur Pooram (തൃശൂർ പൂരം – മേടത്തിലെ പൂരം നക്ഷത്രം)

Thrissur Pooram is the biggest temple festival in Kerala. It is held for several days. The Temple festival called pooram is celebrated at the Vadakkumnatha Temple of Thrissur. The crowd assembles at the Thekkumkadu ground for the celebration related to the Trissur Pooram. Kudamattam and vedikettu are the two important factors of the celebration. Kudamattam is the ritual of exchanging the umbrella by the persons sitting on elephants assembled as a row. Vedikett is Fireworks. The fireworks conducted in the early morning are also called Pakalpooram.

Kerala Piravi (കേരളപിറവി ദിനം – നവംബർ 1)
Kerala Piravi is the day of celebration of the state of Kerala. Kerala state was formed !st November 1956. This is the historical fact associated with the formation of Kerala State. There is also a myth associated with the Kerala State formation. It is said that Kerala has been formed by the throwing of axe by the Parasurama who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The day is widely celebrated in every place in Kerala. On this day all men and women will dress in traditional dress and have traditional practices. Women will wear Set Saree and Men will wear Mund. The day is an event for celebration for schools and colleges.
