Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) Overview: Categories and Purpose
The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) is an essential examination conducted by the Office of the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala, under the guidelines of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Kerala, and the regulations set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the Department of General Education. The K-TET aims to assess the quality and eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers in Kerala, ensuring compliance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which mandates the quality standards for teacher recruitment.
The K-TET is organized for four distinct categories of teacher recruitment:
- Category I – For teachers of Lower Primary classes.
- Category II – For teachers of Upper Primary classes.
- Category III – For High School teachers.
- Category IV – For Language teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu for UP classes), Specialist teachers (Art & Craft), and Physical Education teachers.
