KTET Exam Pattern: What the Paper Looks Like

Every category has 150 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each, with a time limit of 2½ hours. For reference, the Category I paper follows this section-wise split:

Categories II, III and IV follow the same 150-mark structure with their own subject and language sections. Check the official syllabus for the exact split.

Kerala TET 2026 Section-Wise Exam Analysis: What Each Part Tests

Child Development & Pedagogy. This section usually features application-based questions rather than direct definitions. Expect classroom scenarios, learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg), inclusive education and assessment concepts. It is the highest-scoring section for candidates who practise scenario questions.

Language sections. These test grammar, comprehension, and language teaching methodology. They are often the quickest marks if your basics are strong, since answers are usually definite.

Subject sections (Maths, EVS, Science, Social Science, subject papers). These combine content knowledge with teaching methodology. Content questions test school-level concepts. Methodology questions test how you would teach them.

With no negative marking, the strategy is simple:

• Attempt all 150 questions. A wrong answer costs nothing, and a blind guess has a chance of scoring.
• Aim for a safety margin. General candidates need 90 correct answers. Aiming for 105 or more gives you a cushion for careless errors and doubtful answers.
• Secure your strong sections first. Language and Child Development sections are good places to bank marks quickly.
• Do not leave OMR blanks. Reserve the last 10 minutes to fill any unanswered bubbles.
