History of Palindrome

Latin palindromic square was the first noted Palindrome in the History. It  was found on a Roman wall in Cirencester, Eng., and in Pompeii, Italy. The original scripture which was found in Latin which reads ‘Sator arepo tenet opera rotas’. is translated as: “Arepo the sower holds the wheels with care.” It was first introduced by Henry Peacham in 1638. In late 19th century this palindromic square was graven on amulets and charms and set upon pregnant women to ensure safe delivery.

The first  palindrome in English literature is believed to have been created by John Taylor in the year 1614. The palindrome is:

  • Lewd did I live, & evil I did dwel

Many people block palindromic dates while planning as they believe that they bring good luck. So, if you are the one who believes in this, then this article is for you!
