The Union Public Service Commission recruits gazetted rank group-A officers across the Central Armed Police Forces to the Assistant Commandant position through open recruitment. Among the seven CAPF services, 05 uses the UPSC Assistant Commandant recruitment to hire eligible candidates to their services: (Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), Border Security Forces (BSF), and Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF)). Border Security Forces
Some of the duties entitled to the officers in the BSF is:
- advocate a sense of security among the civilians living in the border area

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
The Commandant in the Central Industrial Security Force unit shall be responsible for the security of the Undertaking in which the detachment of the Units where the officer is posted. For that, he shall remain in close touch with the district authorities as well as Police authorities and the heads of the various departments in the said Undertaking. The officer shall keep the Managing Director and the General Manager of the said undertaking as well as the Deputy Inspector General fully informed of all the developments and send them regular fortnightly reports as prescribed. Matters of urgent nature, however, shall be brought to the reporting officers attention by the quickest possible way. He shall pay his personal attention to the working of the Intelligence wing and ensure that intelligence is efficiently collected and conveyed promptly to the higher officials.
