Every year the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites applications for the post of Assistant Commandants in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Both male and female candidates will be eligible for the UPSC CAPF AC examination. Till now the commission has published 159 vacancies across the CAPF services to be filled by this recruitment drive. Since last year, the commission fills a total of 323 posts were filled through this recruitment drive, we can expect an increase in the vacant numbers by the end of the recruitment cycle.  To be eligible for the Assistant Commandant position in any of the Central Armed Police Forces, aspirants will have to clear a written exam, physical efficiency and medical standard test followed by an interview. Based on the results of the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) examination held by the Union Public Service Commission and the interviews for the Personality Test held the commission publishes the list, in order of merit, of candidates who have been recommended for appointment to the posts of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). After each stage of the screening process, the Commission publishes the list of shortlisted candidates along with the cut-off marks on their official website for both the public and candidates.

The UPSC CAPF Selection Process includes the following stages:

• Preliminary Stage Written Exam
• Physical Efficiency Test
• Physical Measurement Test

The Physical Measurement Test, Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests will be conducted under the supervision of a Nodal Authority to be appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs across various centres.

• Interview/ Personality Test

Aspirants who are shortlisted for the Interview/ Personality Test, including those shortlisted for Interview/ Personality Test provisionally will be issued a Detailed Application Form (DAF) in which among other things, they will be required to indicate their preference of Forces. The final selection list or the merit list will be drawn by the commission based on marks obtained by the examinees in the Written Examination and Interview/ Personality Test.
