University Grant Commission (UGC) is a statutory body constituted by the Department of Higher Education, under the ministry of education, Government of India. UGC provides recognition to Universities in India and gives funds to such accredited universities and Colleges. National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted to find the eligible candidates for Assistant Professorship or Junior Research fellowship or both for Indian universities and colleges. CBSE was responsible for Conducting a National Eligibility Test on behalf of UGC. But after 2018, National Testing Agency became the responsible agency to conduct the National Eligibility Test on behalf of UGC.
NTA conducts UGC NET exams twice a year. The exam is held in June and December every year. NTA UGC NET exam June 2022 will be notified soon on the official website of ugcnet.nta
UGC NET Exam Overview
The candidates must apply for the UGC NET exam through online mode. A scanned photograph and signature must be uploaded. The application fee for the General category is 1000. For OBC-NCL it is 500 and for SC/ST/PwD/Transgender it is 250. The candidates must possess a master’s degree or equivalent from any recognized university in India by UGC. Candidates appearing for the final semester can also apply for the exam. The NET exam conducted by National Testing Agency is a Computer Based Test (CBT). This is an online test and it consists of two papers. The exam for two papers will be done in the same session. The exam will be objective-type multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 consists of 50 questions and it carries 100 marks. Paper 2 consists of 100 questions and it carries 200 marks. Paper 1 will have 1 hour and Paper 2 will have 2 hours. For every correct answer, 2 marks will be given and there is no negative mark for wrong answers.
