Kerala PSC PWD AE Civil Eligibility Criteria 2026
The Assistant Engineer (Civil) post in the Public Works Department is open only to existing departmental employees.
1. Eligible Departments & Categories
Only candidates currently working in the Public Works Department in the following posts are eligible:
- I & II Grade Draftsman / Overseer
- III Grade Overseer / Tracers
- Clerks, Typists, Typist-Clerks, Confidential Assistants
Important Notes:
- Candidates working provisionally in these posts are not eligible.
- In case no suitable candidates are available for transfer, vacancies may be filled from the ranked list prepared for direct recruitment.
- Reservation rules under Kerala State and Subordinate Service Rules do not apply to this selection.
2. Service Requirements
The minimum length of service required depends on the category:
- Draftsman / Overseer / Tracers: Minimum 2 years of service in one or more relevant categories
- Clerks, Typists, Typist-Clerks, Confidential Assistants: Minimum 6 years of service in the respective category
3. Age Limit
- Candidates must have completed 21 years of age as of 01.01.2025
- There is no upper age limit for this post
4. Educational Qualifications
Candidates must satisfy any one of the following qualifications in Civil Engineering:
Option 1 – Degree in Engineering:
- B.Sc / B.Tech (Civil) from Kerala University
- B.E (Civil) from Madras University
- Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the relevant authority
Option 2 – Associate Membership Diploma:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering awarded by the Institution of Engineers, India
- Any other recognized equivalent diploma
Option 3 – Associate Membership Examination:

Pass in Section A & B of the Associate Membership Examination of the Institution of Engineers, India
5. Probation Period

Every appointed candidate will undergo probation for a total of 2 years, to be completed within a continuous period of 3 years from the date of joining

Kerala PSC PWD Assistant Engineer Civil Selection Process 2026
Candidates for the Kerala PSC Assistant Engineer (Civil) post are selected through a written exam, followed by an interview (if conducted) and document verification. A ranked list of qualified candidates will be published and remain valid for 1 to 3 years. Selected candidates will be on probation for two years within a continuous period of three years from the date of joining.
