RRB JE: Job Profile
- A Junior Engineer in Railways is responsible for various construction and maintenance work of Railway staff quarters, offices and water supply of Railways.
- It is important for a Junior Engineer to ensure that the maintenance of Railway Tracks is taking place according to the schedule.
- The work of a Junior Engineer also includes all sorts of repair and painting of the Railway Station such as the extension of Platforms, construction of Railway shed etc.

RRB JE Salary: Salary Received During Training Period
A Junior Engineer in Railways has to work as a Trainee once they successfully qualify the RRB JE Examination. The Trainee has to adapt to the changes and the surrounding work culture as an RRB JE Engineer. During the training period, he receives a salary of Rs34,500 which increases once the training period is over.
RRB JE Salary: Salary Received After the Training Period
After the successful completion of training, an RRB JE Engineer becomes a permanent employee and receives many additional allowances such as HRA, DA along with handsome incentives. An RRB JE Engineer gets a pay of Rs 42,000 per month. This salary also depends upon the city in which the Junior Engineer is posted. The Railways have accordingly categorized the cities as city X, Y and Z.
- City X – These are those cities which are considered as metropolitan cities.
- City Y – These are the metropolitan cities along with other developed and larger cities.
- City Z – These includes the small cities and villages.

SSC JE: Salary After the 7th Pay Commission
The PayScale of SSC JE has also gone through a massive change after the 7th Pay Commission. Under the 6th Pay scale matrix, an SSC Junior Engineer will be paid Rs35,400-Rs112400. An SSC Junior Engineer will receive a total sum of Rs 44,000 along with additional allowance and benefits every month.
