Join NowRRB Technician 2026: How to Apply Online – Steps (CEN No. 02/2026)
Candidates applying for RRB Technician Recruitment 2026 must submit applications only through official RRB websites. Applications via other modes will not be accepted. Follow this step-by-step guide to avoid errors and ensure eligibility.
Step 1: Create an Account on the RRB Portal
Before filling the application, candidates must first create an account:
- Use the link provided on the official RRB websites (listed at Para 19.0 of the CEN) or the Unified RRB Common Website: rrb.indianrailways.gov.in
- Candidates who already created an account for previous RRB CENs (2024/2025/2026) should use the same login credentials — no need to create a new account
- A valid personal mobile number and active email ID are mandatory for OTP verification during account creation
- Important: Details entered in the “Create an Account” form — including mobile number and email ID — cannot be modified later under any circumstances. Fill these in carefully.
Identity Authentication Advisory
Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar at the account creation stage. This ensures smoother and faster verification at later stages of recruitment. Candidates who use alternate Photo IDs instead will face significantly stricter scrutiny at every stage.
Step 2: General Guidelines for Filling the Online Application
- Use only the official link provided on RRB websites — beware of fake/unauthorized websites
- Read the entire detailed CEN carefully before filling the form
- Separate application required for each Pay Level — since separate CBTs are conducted for Technician Grade-I Signal (Level 5) and Technician Grade-III (Level 2)
- Choose only one RRB per Pay Level — applying to more than one RRB for the same pay level results in rejection of all applications and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams
- Select your medium of examination from English, Hindi, or 13 regional languages
- Provide your order of preference for posts under the chosen RRB, based on eligibility and interest
- Recheck all details carefully — corrections after submission are only possible during the modification window (with fee)
Step 3: Live Photo Capture During Application
Unlike older recruitment processes, candidates do not need to upload a pre-existing photograph. Instead, the application module captures a live photograph during the form-filling process.
Instructions for Live Photo Capture:
- Photo can be captured using a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone
- Wear non-white, preferably dark-coloured clothing for contrast against the background
- Position the camera at eye level
- Look straight ahead with a neutral expression
- Ensure your entire face is visible and centered within the frame
- Face should be neither too close nor too far from the camera
- Do not wear a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles
- You can preview and retake the photo until final submission
Do not attempt to photograph a printed or pre-existing photo — such applications will be summarily rejected. If the live photo doesn’t pass validation/matching, candidates must download Annexure-VII (Gazetted Officer attestation) and upload it as identity proof.
Step 4: Upload Mandatory Documents
1. Candidate Signature (JPG/JPEG format)
- Must be written by the candidate themselves, using black ink on white paper
- Must be in running/cursive handwriting — NOT block, capital, or disjointed letters
- Scan resolution: Minimum 100 DPI
- File size: Between 30 KB and 49 KB
- Dimensions: Minimum 140 x 60 pixels
- Scan box size: 35mm (width) x 20mm (height), signature centered
Common rejection grounds for signature uploads:
- Signature of someone other than the applicant
- Non-white background or non-black ink
- Block/capital letters instead of cursive
- Poor resolution, incomplete, or blank signature
- Thumb impression in place of signature
Note: Some PwBD candidates whose disability prevents signing may upload a fingerprint image instead (left thumb → right thumb → any finger of hands → any finger of legs, in that order).
2. SC/ST Certificate (only if requesting free train travel pass)
- PDF format only
- File size under 400 KB
- Must be legible and valid as on the closing date of application
Step 5: Application Fee Payment
| Category | Fee | Refund (on appearing in CBT) |
|---|---|---|
| UR / General / EWS / OBC | ₹500 | ₹400 refunded |
| SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / Female / Transgender / Minorities / EBC | ₹250 | ₹250 refunded |
- Fee must be paid online only — via internet banking, debit/credit card, or UPI
- Fee is required separately for each Pay Level
- Applications submitted without fee payment are summarily rejected with no refund
- Refunds are credited only to a bank account seeded with Aadhaar
Candidates should also use the services of Common Service Centres (CSC) if they need assistance applying online — over 1.5 lakh CSCs are available across India for this purpose (visit www.csc.gov.in or findmycsc.nic.in).
Step 6: Final Submission
Acceptance of the online application happens only after fee payment confirmation. Once confirmed, candidates receive a successful submission notification via email and SMS.
Modifying Your RRB Technician 2026 Application After Submission
If you need to make changes after submitting your application, RRBs allow modifications during a designated window:
- Modification window: 1 August 2026 to 10 August 2026
- Modification fee: ₹250 (non-refundable) per occasion — can be done any number of times within the window
- Cannot be modified at any stage: Details filled in the “Create an Account” form (mobile number, email ID) and your Chosen RRB
Special Modification Cases
- If switching community from SC/ST to UR/OBC/EWS — pay the fee difference (₹250) along with the modification fee
- If switching from Ex-SM/Female/Transgender/PwBD to UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS/Non-ExSM/Non-PwBD/Male — pay the fee difference (₹250) along with the modification fee
- After 10 August 2026, RRBs will not entertain any modification requests under any circumstances
RRB Technician Scribe Registration
For Eligible PwBD Candidates. Candidates eligible for scribe assistance (Blindness, Locomotor Disability – Both Arms Affected, Cerebral Palsy, or other certified physical limitations) must:
- Opt for “scribe” while filling the online application
- Ensure their scribe registers separately at rrbapply.gov.in and obtains a One-Time Registration (OTR) Number
- During the 5-day window (11–15 August 2026) immediately after the modification window closes, log in and enter the scribe’s OTR number
- An OTP is sent to the scribe’s registered mobile — candidates must obtain and enter this OTP to confirm the scribe
A separate e-Call Letter is issued to the registered scribe, who must carry valid original ID proof on exam day.
Grounds for Application Rejection
Be careful to avoid these common rejection triggers:
- Applying to multiple RRBs for the same Pay Level
- Non-compliance with live photo capture instructions
- Non-compliance with signature upload specifications
- Name appearing in any RRB/RRC debarred list
- Any irregularity found during scrutiny, before/after e-call letter issuance, or during Document Verification
Rejected applications (with reasons) can be viewed by logging into the RRB website. No refund is given for rejected applications, and no representation against rejection is entertained.
