Even though the SSC CPO Recruitment is done to select candidates to three major departments, there are different posts listed in some of them. To say the least, if we consider the posts listed under the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces), we will find seven major job positions in it. They are:
- BSF- Border Security Force
- CRPF- Central Reserve Police Force
- CISF- Central Industrial Security Force
- ITBP- Indo-Tibetan Border Police
- SSB- Sashastra Seema Bal
- AR- Assam Rifles
- NSG- National Security Guard
Each of the aforesaid forces are the security forces of India. And they fall under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Major Functions of various SSC CPO Posts
Border Security Force -BSF
One of the most important duties of BSF is to protect the Indian Border, as the name suggests. This includes the Indo-Pak Border as well as the Indo- Bangladesh border. Apart from this, the BSF is also responsible for bringing in a sense of security to the people living in the borders. They also must be vigilant to border intelligence and other illegal activities.
Central Reserve Police Force – CRPF

Central Industrial Security Force- CISF

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBF)

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
One of the major aims of SSB is to promote brotherhood amongst the people living across the borders. Moreover, it also aims to reduce illegal happenings like smuggling in the border regions of the country.
Assam Rifles – AR
Assam Rifles along with the Indian Army is responsible for maintaining the law and order in the North Eastern states of India. This category falls under one of the six CAPFs under the ministry of Home Affairs.
National Security Guard – NSG
NSG is a specialist force that helps to prevent or tackle any terrorist activities or related events in the country.
