RRB Technician Eligibility 2026 (CEN 02/2026)

Candidates applying for RRB Technician Grade-I Signal and Technician Grade-III posts under CEN No. 02/2026 must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria before applying online. The eligibility includes Nationality, Age Limit, Educational Qualification, and Medical Standards as detailed below.

1. Nationality / Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

• A citizen of India, or
• A citizen of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or
• A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam to settle in India permanently.

Candidates belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv), and (v) must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India during Document Verification.

Technician Grade-I Signal (Pay Level 5)

• Bachelor of Science in Physics / Electronics / Computer Science / Information Technology / Instrumentation from a recognized University/Institute, OR

• 3-year Diploma in Engineering in the above streams (or combination), OR
• Degree in Engineering in the above streams (or combination)

Technician Grade-III (Pay Level 2) — General Pattern

Most Grade-III trades require:

• Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI certificate from a recognized institution (NCVT/SCVT) in the relevant trade, OR
• Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA) in the relevant trade

Important Qualification Rules

• Candidates must possess the required qualification on or before the closing date of online application (29.07.2026)
• Candidates awaiting final results of the prescribed qualification exam are NOT eligible to apply
• Diploma/Degree in Engineering will NOT be accepted in lieu of ITI/CCAA for Technician Grade-III posts (Pay Level 2), unless explicitly specified for that post
• Graduate Act Apprentices will NOT be accepted in lieu of Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA)
• If the qualification certificate’s issue date is after the closing date, candidates must instead submit a consolidated marksheet (or individual semester/year marksheets) showing the date of declaration of result

RRB Technician Reservation Eligibility 2026

Vertical Reservation (Community-Based)

• EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL candidates are eligible for vertical reservation, wherever notified
• OBC candidates in the “Creamy Layer” are not entitled to OBC reservation — a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate (issued on/after 01.04.2026, but before the closing date) is mandatory
• EWS eligibility: Family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh, and the family must not own 5+ acres of agricultural land, a 1,000+ sq. ft. residential flat, or specified residential plot sizes
• EBC (Economically Backward Class) is a separate category from EWS and OBC — it grants only fee concession, not job reservation. EBC applies to candidates with annual family income below ₹50,000

Horizontal Reservation (Cuts Across Communities)

• Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) and PwBD candidates get horizontal reservation, irrespective of social community
• PwBD candidates can also apply against regular (non-reserved) vacancies if the post is suitable for their disability category — they retain age relaxation and fee exemption benefits in such cases
