These TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts preparation tips 2026 are for candidates preparing for the Combined Technical Services Examination (Interview Posts) (Notification No. 8/2026, Advertisement No. 741), which has 170 tentative vacancies in 31 posts. The selection has a written exam (Paper I and Paper II, computer based) and a 60-mark interview, so your strategy has to cover three things: clearing the Tamil Eligibility Test, scoring high in General Studies and your subject paper, and preparing for the interview.
Last date to apply: 6 October 2026, 11:59 PM. The exam date has not been announced, so use the time before it to build a strong base. Read the TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts Selection Process 2026 first to understand the stages and marks.
TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts Preparation Tips 2026: Know the Exam Pattern First
- Total rank marks: 510 (450 written + 60 interview).
- Paper II is 300 of the 450 written marks, so about two thirds of your written score comes from your own subject.
- Paper I has 200 questions (Part A 100, Part B 75, Part C 25) in 3 hours, which works out to roughly 54 seconds per question. Paper II has 200 questions in 3 hours, which is 54 seconds per question.
- The marks work out to 1.5 per question in each part (150 marks for 100 questions, 300 marks for 200 questions).
- Minimum qualifying marks: 135 out of 450 (reserved categories) and 180 out of 450 (Others), plus 60 in Part A. These are only the minimum to stay in the process. The shortlist is decided by rank.
- The notification does not mention negative marking. Read the exam-day instructions (Annexure IV) and check for any updates.
| Part | What it is | Questions | Marks | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I, Part A | Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC) | 100 | 150 | Qualifying only. You need 60 marks (40%) |
| Paper I, Part B | General Studies (Degree) | 75 | 150 (with Part C) | Counts for rank |
| Paper I, Part C | Aptitude and Mental Ability (SSLC) | 25 | Counts for rank | |
| Paper II | Subject Paper (Degree / PG Degree) | 200 | 300 | Counts for rank, biggest weight |
| Interview | 60 | Counts for rank |
Step 1: Clear the Tamil Eligibility Test (Part A)
If you score below 60 in Part A, your Part B, Part C and Paper II will not be evaluated at all. Many strong subject candidates lose out here, so treat Part A as a gate to clear with a safe margin.
Unit-wise question distribution (SSLC standard, 100 questions)
| Unit | Topic | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| I | Grammar (இலக்கணம்) | 25 |
| II | Vocabulary (சொல்லகராதி) | 15 |
| III | Writing skills (எழுதும் திறன்) | 15 |
| IV | Technical terms (கலைச்சொற்கள்) | 10 |
| V | Reading and comprehension (வாசித்தல்) | 15 |
| VI | Simple translation | 5 |
| VII | Literature, Tamil scholars and Tamil service | 15 |
TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts Preparation Tips 2026 (Part A)
- Start with Unit I and Unit II (40 questions). Grammar and vocabulary are rule based and easy to master with practice: letter confusions (ல, ழ, ள; ன, ண, ந; ர, ற), sandhi errors, word classification, antonyms, synonyms and word usage.
- Use the school textbooks. The syllabus for Unit VII is based on textbooks up to SSLC standard, as stated in the notification. Read the Tamil textbooks for the Thirukkural chapters listed, ethical works, and Tamil scholars and their contributions.
- Learn the 20 Thirukkural chapters listed in the syllabus for Unit VII and practise the quotation-based questions.
- Practise Unit V comprehension daily. Read a newspaper editorial or news item in Tamil and answer questions on the idiom, proverb and meaning of the passage.
- Make a list of technical terms (Unit IV). Learn English words with Tamil equivalents in science, medicine, administration, technology and media. Revise the list weekly.
- Translate daily-use English words (computer, printer, keyboard and similar) for Unit VI.
- Aim for 75 plus out of 100 questions (about 110 marks) in practice tests so that you stay safe above the 60-mark cutoff on the exam day.
- If you are a differently abled candidate who has claimed exemption from Part A, use that time on the other papers.

- Make a one-page list of Tamil Nadu welfare schemes with the target group, and revise it often.
- Follow current affairs since the syllabus names them in this unit.

- Build a timeline of movements and leaders.
Unit IV: Indian Polity (15 questions)
- Preamble, features, Fundamental Rights and Duties, Directive Principles, Union and State executive and legislature, local government, Panchayat Raj, federalism, elections, judiciary.
- Also covers Lokpal and Lok Ayukta, RTI, consumer protection, human rights and women’s empowerment.
- Make a comparison table for articles, institutions and bodies.
Unit III: Indian history and national movement (10 questions)

Units I and II: General Science and Geography (5 each)
- Cover the basic laws of physics, chemistry, life science, health and environment, plus India’s physical geography, rivers, soil, climate, disasters and climate change.
- These are small units, so cover them last and revise quickly.
TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts Preparation Tips 2026 – Aptitude and Mental Ability (Part C, 25 Questions)

| Unit | Topics | Questions |
|---|---|---|

- These are among the easiest marks in the exam. 25 questions at 1.5 marks is 37.5 marks.
- Learn tables, squares, cubes and fraction-percentage conversions so calculations are quick.
- Practise 20 aptitude questions daily with a timer.
- Solve number series and puzzle questions in sets to build pattern recognition.
TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts Preparation Tips 2026 – Master Your Paper II Subject (300 Marks)
Paper II carries the most weight. Choose only the subject paper that matches your qualification and read the full syllabus for it in Annexure III of the notification. Common subject paper codes include 396 / 397 (Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science), 567 (Zoology and Medical Entomology), 564 and 504 (Statistics and Economics), 422 (Basics of Engineering), 434 (Financial and Cost Accountancy), 595 (Library and Information Science) and 372 (Psychology). The full list is on the selection process.
How to approach Paper II
- Download the syllabus and break it into units. The notification gives the question count per unit. For example, in the PG-level Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science paper, the units carry 10, 20, 10, 10, 20 and 5 questions and so on, so you can rank units by weight.
- Start with the high-weightage units and finish the subject in the first half of your preparation.
- Revise from your degree textbooks and your own class notes. The paper is at degree or PG degree standard.
- Link subject topics to Tamil Nadu and government schemes wherever the syllabus mentions state programmes, policies or institutions.
- Solve previous year papers and topic-wise tests for similar TNPSC technical papers, and keep an error log.
- Plan 200 questions in 3 hours. Do a first pass in about 2 hours 15 minutes, then use the rest to recheck marked questions.

- Attempt Part A carefully, not slowly. You only need 60 marks, but aim for much more. Try to finish Part A in about 70 to 75 minutes so you keep around 1 hour 45 minutes for Parts B and C (these are 100 questions, so work out your own pace in mock tests).
- Use the elimination method. For objective questions, remove two clearly wrong options, then choose from the other two.
- Don’t leave easy marks. Do Part C (aptitude) and the simple Part B questions first, then return to the difficult ones.
- Mark and move. If a question needs more than a minute, mark it and come back.
- Check for negative marking in the exam-day instructions before deciding how to guess.
- Read the options fully. Many questions use “which is not” or “incorrect” statements.
- Manage Paper II in two passes. Answer what you know in the first pass, then use the remaining time on marked questions.
- Stay calm with the CBT screen. Practise on a computer in mock tests so the exam interface feels familiar.
TNPSC CTSE Interview Posts 2026 – Interview Preparation Tips (60 Marks)
The interview is meant to judge your personality, bearing, aptitude, general knowledge and technical knowledge for the post. With few vacancies per post and shortlisting in a small multiple of the vacancies, every interview mark can change your final rank.
- Know your post. Read the job profie of the post: its department, duties and the work you will actually do.
- Revise your core subject. Be ready for questions from your degree or PG subject, including practical and field scenarios.
- Know your own application. Be able to explain your qualification, project work, internship or work experience in simple words, especially for the experience-based posts.
- Follow current affairs and Tamil Nadu government programmes, particularly those linked to your department.
- Practise answering in clear, short sentences, in Tamil and English, with a mock interview with a friend or mentor.
- Prepare “why this post” and “what will you do in the first year” answers.
- Keep your original documents organised for physical certificate verification.
- Be honest. If you don’t know an answer, say so calmly rather than guessing wildly.
